don't get too close [private, stormy] it's dark inside

Bluepaw laid curled up just outside of the Seven stones'
clearing where the gathered Clans lived together while they
debated about their journey to a new home. This solid gray and
white tom didn't care much, of course. He felt like he had
nothing to live for, and that no one knew that he existed.
Except for two certain apprentices, Greekpaw and Flippaw. Yes,
they were the only ones who kept him from swallowing a few
tempting deathberries. When he thought about them, something
made him smile inside. Did he like them? Did they consider him a
friend? He hoped so. Bluepaw decided to reveal one light blue
eye and breath in the scents around him, just in case one of
them happened to pass by.

It just so happened, one did. Greekpaw spotted him and smiled,
walking over to him. She concentrated for a second and then
greeted, Hey Bluepaw.

Bluepaw shot his head up and swung it towards Greekpaw, his gaze
growing brighter when she smiled sweetly. He wanted to grin
back, but ugh, it was hard. His maw tried it's best to smile,
twitching slightly, and once it showed success with a very, very
faint smile, it disappeared. "H-hey," he replied, afterwards
blinking and looking down at his paws while his mouth quivered
anxiously.

The apprentice frowned as she saw only a faint smile. At least
he had smiled, though. It still seemed wrong that he was so
upset. Greekpaw nudged him gently, sitting beside him and
asking, What's wrong? You seem upset. She flattened her ears.

Bluepaw sat himself down and pushed out a small sigh, his heart
slowly beginning to pound when she settled down beside him. "I
uh...Y-you don't have to worry about me, I'm f-fine," he assured
quietly, even if he did expect complete doubt from the gentle
she. He knew he was a depressing cat to be around, and after he
realized his addiction to catnip had bad effects towards others
around him, everything was his fault and it was hard to pull him
out of that mindset. At least by himself it was.

You're not fine, she insisted. Greekpaw looked up at him. I want
you to be happy, Blue. What would make you happy? The apprentice
frowned leaning on her friend's shoulder. The truth was, she
liked him. At first she hadn't when she had asked him to the
ball, but going with him had made her realize what she felt. She
was scared to admit it though. What if he rejected her? What if
she messed up their friendship? Worst of all, what if--if he did
like her, and they got together--what if she got truly attached
to him and something happened? Her frown deepening, she lay
down.

Bluepaw flattened his wide gray ears against his head and shyly
glanced to the side of him. Should he tell her? It sounded
selfish and stupid to him, perhaps, but it was all he wanted.
Actually, what everyone wants. To be loved, and accepted. But he
always figured no one would find him a good friend when he was
addicted to catnip, and secretly stole it from his own Clan. But
now he had to travel to the twoleg homes if he wanted some. He
took a deep breath and shuffled his paws. "I uh...just want..."
Just stop, Bluepaw, you're gonna sound like an idiot in front of
her! his mind scolded, but he kept going. "a friend?" he
finished, cringing slightly in fear of her reaction.

Greekpaw frowned. He thought he had no friends? She stood up,
moving closer and touching her nose to his muzzle in an attempt
to comfort him. But you do have a friend, she told him. Aren't I
your friend?

Bluepaw blinked with surprise and stared anxiously into her
close orbs, hesitating to reply. She was his friend? She wanted
to be his friend? His heart leaped for joy, screaming happily,
though his face stayed blank. He should have known! "Oh, um,
o-of course Greekpaw," he stammered, awkwardly poking her tiny
nose with his. He hoped she didn't take any offense, like he
forgot about her or something. The often saddened tom just
didn't think she considered him a companion, but it was obvious,
Why else would she have gone with him to the ball? "S-sorry," he
muttered quickly and pulled back, his black pupils zooming down
to stare at the ground shamefully.

It's alright. The little cat reached up and touched her nose to
his. You don't need to apologize. Greekpaw glanced up at him,
pricking her ears.
