The only problem is that as you get older they don't want to
know that you can read it, they want to know that you understand
it and know why the author did or didn't write this, what
they're choosing to talk about as they write this, what was the
message in the text, etc. Things that aren't just 'this is what
this word means!'

Yeah, it's stupid.
The author probably wasn't even thinking about those things
while writing. I sure don't. So why would we need to come up
with a message, purpose and crap if the author didn't even say
it themselves? It's only trying to give deeper meaning to
something that really doesn't. You're giving the author more
credit than they deserve for their ideas.

... I do. I'm using my demon story to show my possition on
humanity as a whole and what they've done. The next one I'm
using to talk about religion. Mark Twaine wrote Huckleberry Finn
to show what he thought about slavery and how dumb it was. Or
the author of A Brave New world, he wrote that to show what the
progession of human machinery would do and how increadibly
flawed the idea of normal is. Another story I read that I cant
remember the name of talked about what life would be if everyone
was average, how people would respond to it and what would
ultimately happen and how overbearing and corrupt the government
can be. Even the Hunger Games is the authors thoughts on big
government. A book always ALWAYS has purpose. Sometimes it's
just for entertainment. And sometimes it's so so much more than
that. You can never not give the authors of great books too much
credit. They've created something amazing that will last for
years and years to come. Just look at shakespear. We're still
reading his works a hundred years later! Writing isn't just for
fun. It isn't pointless. It's something everyone can do but very
few can do it well.

Yes it is. You have no idea what writing and the power of words
mean to me! I'm really tempted to go off about it but I'm on my
phone and it might bug out before I finish which would be
serious mood kill.

I just don't have patience enough to write paragraphs about how
great a book was that I hated reading. Red Badge of Courage was
the absolute worst thing every written. Sure it reflected crap
about humanity and war but it was BORING.
no wait i take that back
starkit's prophecy was the worst thing ever written
but at least it was so bad it was funny
funny bad is good
dull boring bad is what i hate the most

I do understand it though, and I know what the meanings are when
I read something. Like Rot&Ruin is about how humans are the
monsters. We destroy the Earth without even knowing it, but some
people do know it, and they don't care. We kill other people,
sometimes just because we misunderstand what they are like
because they come across the wrong way.
Okay, so Science... nope.
Math, probably.
Reading, writing, and grammar, yes, I probably could help with
that a lot.
I'm not sure of my reading level right now :/
And I'm not sure what you guys said after, but I'm just saying
my opinion on the earlier posts.
