This is the drum I’ve been banging for longer than I can
remember.
George Courtney came onto the full League list in 1974, by 1977
he was wearing a FIFA badge. Today he wouldn’t have a chance.

I've been away and have only just seen the highlights. I think
Kevin was hasty (with VAR in operation) but I don't think he was
wrong to penalise Grealish for diving, any contact being greatly
exaggerated by Grealish plumenting to the ground. We had a
similar incident earlier in the week in the Carabao Cup (? at
Newcastle) when a team scored immediately following an
exaggerated fall to earth by a colleague, and the goal was
allowed which drew very critical comments from the TV pundits
and rightly so imo. For what it is worth, I thought the 2nd
yellow for Trezeguet was justified, perhaps more so than the
first. Palace and Friend - controversy never seems to be far
away.

I didn't think that it was a penalty although there could have
been a foul awarded for the previous challenge just outside the
box that initiated Grealish's unbalance.
I also didn't think that it was simulation.
If he had let the play run until the shot had been taken, VAR
could have confirmed all of that and confirmed the goal (if
scored).

Sorry but there was a massive difference between the Carabao Cup
incident and this one. The Newcastle player Willems looked like
he'd suddenly seen an imaginary swimming pool and was competing
in the Olympics. Jack Grealish didn't plummet to the ground and
he'd actually managed to pass the ball before he went down. This
is one of those situations where no-one can defend the
indefensible. Kevin Friend totally cocked up on this one and
he'll know it as much as anyone else.

I agree with you mate, Grealish completely exaggerates any
contact. He was pushed in the back according to Dean Smith,
since when does being pushed in the back make your legs shoot
out in a wide v shape? Any contact with Cahill was after he was
already falling into Cahill's path. Grealish got away with
diving in the Championship as he was a biggish name, he doesn't
in the PL.

I was speaking to someone whilst at work who was asking why they
got it so wrong. I then turned and said something that both
agreed with and that's the Jack Grealish has a reputation for
going down easily so this will proceed him.
