Why shouldn't they spend their money how they like? I believe
Salford is certainly the local club of Scholes anyway. Salford
(unlike Bury?) are currently a Football League club.
       [/quote]
Yes Salford are a FL Club now but they haven’t been ever before
in their long history unlike bury.
Many die hard and traditional Salford fans are very unhappy
(still) at the takeover of their club by scholes et al, because
they were quite happy where they were and didn’t want to go any
       higher!

Equally, I'm sure there are many who are enjoying the club's
recent journey - their fanbase has certainly grown. I'm not sure
it can really be described as a pipe dream, considering how
quickly they have been promoted through the football pyramid.

No problem, just to add that on the freely available list of
Bury creditors is 'Hotel Football', which is next to Old
Trafford. Hotel Football is part-owned by Gary and Phil
       Neville...

Scholes is from the Oldham area which, by some distance, is
       further from Salford than Bury

       As it should have been.
Only vanity made them think otherwise, unlike the likes of
Darlington, Stockport, Aldershot, Newport, Maidstone, etc...

Without making any judgement on the Bury situation. It is a fact
that The Football League have a long history of illogical
decision making, depending on the status of a particular club.
One of the prime examples was the circumstances of Arsenal’s
promotion to the First Division a century ago

Agree entirely with the sentiment, but surely Stockport were
relegated in the usual fashion (albeit after financial troubles)
so shouldn't be on the unfortunately lengthy list of examples?
