Premier League are doing it differently. Assistants are told to
flag as normal, but the referee should delay the whistle until
the attack breaks down.

........ so they are not in position to judge any subsequent
offsides ?
I don’t think this really matters because first offside decision
will be taken unless VAR check required which would judge
subsequent offences too if necessary. No need to ask an
assistant to keep a tally of 3 or 4 other decisions in case they
got the first one wrong.

I sat behind Bennett and I can’t remember the last time I saw an
assistant so far behind play and then when he did get up with
play pretty much guess if the player was offside, it’s all well
and good being relaxed but I’d go as far to say this was a lazy
performance imo

Agreed. I was surprised he got this and it means he won’t be
doing Liverpool for a while now. I’d rather see him taking
control of more challenging games. He’s easily the best we have.
I was a bit surprised he didn’t get United v Chelsea in the end
but before fixtures were released I was expecting him to get
first PL game because of scrutiny on VAR and law changes. A bit
like how Kuipers and Cakir got 2nd and 3rd games at WC last year
even though they weren’t the highest profile.

No that game was reserved for the Manchester referee.
