       Clattenburg on other SG referees

Stumbled across this, for what it's worth. Clattenburg doesn't
seem to rate too many of the current crop as referees -

Clattenburg was one of my favourite PL referees but can't say
he's impressed me too much with some of his comments
       subsequently.

Yeah because the s*n are known for their factual reporting!
Several of the alleged comments by him don't fit with what I
know from him 1st hand to think. It doesn't even read how he
       actually speaks.

Well, it is good to read bmb's contribution about the possible
lack of veracity of the reporting because taken at face value
these comments show Clattenburg in a very poor light indeed.
It's always regrettable when a retiree starts being negatively
critical about former colleagues. Whether these comments
emanate from Clattenburg himself I could not say but I regard
them about as flawed as the grammar used in their expression.
One sentiment though is undoubtedly true, Kevin Friend is a very
nice man. The stuff about refereeing ability I wouldn't take
       much notice of at all.

I thought the comment about Moss was amusing , funnily enough I
share his opinion about Pawson he doesn’t look interested when
       he referees

He does seem to frequently say things in the press that cast him
in a bad light (the 'evening up' in the CL final, his comments
about Tottenham v Chelsea) - think he'd be well advised not to
do it again before he shreds his reputation for being a very
       good referee.

If there is any element of truth in this he should be ashamed of
himself. Quite frankly it shows him up to be what some us,
myself included, felt when he was refereeing - arrogant and up
his own backside to the extent that he felt he was more
important than the game, the Ed Sheehan business being but one
       example.
He wasn’t good enough to hold down his job in Saudi and they
soon got rid of him; good luck to the Chinese, I sense you will
       need it

I admired him very much as a referee and his departure was a
clear loss to the English game and on the wider European and
international scene. However, I share the views about some of
his subsequent activities, particularly regarding his remarks
about some of his former colleagues, despite perhaps agreeing
that there seems to be more than a grain of truth in at least
some of them. I accept that he may not actually have written it
but he has lent his name to the article and presumably been well
paid for it, so surely has to be held responsible for what has
       been written.

Well his opinion of Jon Moss in particular [ according to the
Newcastle Evening Chronicle which is printed on Teesside] was
particularly dismissive of his personal appearance and his
ability to referee, as well as mocking his support of the same
club as myself Sunderland AFC to whom he describes as a "s**t
football club" . Whilst this will obviously make him some sort
of Demi-God on Tyneside the fact is that he lives in a
Sunderland heartland notwithstanding the fact we as a club
already are aware of this and we have been insulted by much
       better than Clattenburg,

He or no one else has ever been allowed to speak up about the
regime when they’ve been active so why not can he not say what
he likes now to out it basically! I agree personal comments
aren’t constructive and will not help. But in general I’m glad
he has been coming out publicly!

If his comments are taken at face value and it is the S*n, then
it shows him in a bad light.
He clearly has old scores to settle with the likes of Atkinson,
Moss and Riley and in some ways, not a surprise as we don't get
       on with all colleagues.
His comments on Moss being a 'good footballer', but dissing him
because of Sunderland connections is very petty, especially as
he lauds Michael Oliver for being a 'wonderful footballer',
       which makes a wonderful ref.
He was supported by his bosses in 2012 when he faced allegations
of 'racist' behaviour by Jon Obi Mikel and in 2008, he was
involved in a failed business venture which could have had
criminal consequences. He has had support from the top brass
that he claims to be against him.
In my view, he let himself down badly by attending an Ed Sheeran
concert and disrespecting referee protocol. He was paid to be a
professional ref so he has responsibilities to his job too.
It seemed to be that whilst he was a great ref, he had a
superstar ego about him and he did give his critics plenty of
       ammunition.
