For the 3rd Season in a row, John Busby referees one of our
first two games! Mark Derrien back on the Home Park lines,
having not seen him for a few years. The 4o is a young lad.
Pollard, Doughty, Rock and Edwards all referee their first EFL
games, having missed out opening day. None of those who debuted
as an EFL Referee on Saturday, get a repeat appointment.
Kettle is back.

Why, where's he been?

If you are referring to Kettle, there was some
rumour/expectation, that he was going to retire.
If you are referring to Mark Derrien, he hasn't been linesman at
Home Park since the beginning of the 17/18 season I think.

He doesn't seem to have half as many disasters at Rochdale than
he does elsewhere....

Quite.
He had a disaster at Scunthorpe in April 2004, where he booked
11 players having lost complete control of the game, but his
performances since then have been quite normal.

Seems a bit of a strange decision to take Rob Lewis off our game
and dispatch him to Bolton as 4th Official and put Seb
Stockbridge as referee on our game.Would it not have been easier
to leave Rob Lewis at Walsall and put Stockbridge as 4th
Official at Bolton ?

I wouldn't say "superb", but he didn't do anything that stood
out or is worth comment.
