That is correct, if you click on the signed programme for the
match, you can just about pick out the name 'Tony Ward of
Southgate'; also 'Buckeridge' (with a magnifying glass!). Makes
more sense than refs from the West Midlands or Norfolk as I
suggested. Will someone advise the poster on Twitter?

Interestingly perhaps, Tony had already been retired for two
seasons when he refereed this game, having come off the list at
the end of the 1992/3 season. He still looks fit enough in this
photo to have taken charge of a game involving two league teams!

Tony Ward continued refereeing after leaving the League list.
The Capital League was around at that time and provided reserve
team football for (obviously) London Bases teams - League and
non-League. It also featured the likes of Dave Axcell and other
"characters" of that era and geography. Tony was always a good
candidate for a testimonial. The guy on the right is wearing an
Isthmian League badge so could well be Dave Buckeridge.

Yes, we discussed this one on the old ISOR thread and I was able
to confirm from memory (although don't ask me how) that the
referee for this great day in York's history was indeed Colin
Fallon of Blackpool. A strange appointment as Colin was in his
first season as a full ref on the FL and this was a plum
appointment. Colin's career on the FL was short, lasting only
three seasons as a full ref + one as a supplementary, although
the reasons for his early departure are not known.
