I may get to see Matt on Saturday although whether we shall get
any vibes on why he was promoted so soon after coming on to the
       list is anybody's guess!

I did get to Gresty Road yesterday afternoon. First half was
pretty straightforward and was refereed well by Matt in a
largely quiet, unhurried style reminiscent of David Coote.
Second half got a bit feisty as Crewe tried to retrieve the game
after a dreadful first 45 minutes, cards flew around including
two at the final whistle, but Matt always seemed in control. But
how the Plymouth goalie survived for as long as he did before
being carded for time wasting, I don't know. Pity because he was
in my view man of the match. Was the appointment of an SG2 ref
justified for this L2 game? Yes, I think it was. Crewe v Crewe
Old Boys (including the Plymouth manager), a raucous following
from the West Country and Crewe trying to get back into the game
in the 2nd half, all needed a firm hand. Did Matt justify his
promotion? Early days but a competent performance yesterday, so
       perhaps.

Both of which were bang on. Really don't understand the
criticism or his label as the "card shark". Yes, he gives out
more Reds/Yellows then others but he is more often than not
correct in such decisions. Mr Breakspear is developing into a
       solid lower league referee.

Looked like a fairy busy afternoon for assistant referees
yesterday with Backhouse, Adcock, Yates and james Oldham all
seeming to take advice before issuing red cards. Quite why
Backhouse needed assistance or indeed let the offender go back
to his own half after a clear act of violent conduct in his
opponent’s penalty area I’ll never know!
On the subject of Adcock, nice to see him have a quiet
afternoon! 4 goal thriller, 2 penalties and a red card!
Seriously though really glad to see him back! One of the best
       refs we’ve got!

Two red cards for Ross Joyce yesterday at Burton. The first was
on the field for two yellow cards to Burton’s Quinn. In
addition there was one for a member of the Ipswich coaching
staff for showing his frustration after almost conceding a
comical goal by kicking a cool box with the lid flying onto the
       pitch.

Cheshire Live online included the following in their live match

Sorry, won't let me post the actual word but sh*t (not shot) is

The term card shark is often used on here (as it was the old
board) in relation to any ref with a higher than average card
count and is not meant in a bad way. It is also widely
acknowledged on here that his decision making is more often than
not spot on with these big calls.
