Yes, Darren joins a select few who have returned to the list
after an absence of at least a season. Graham Horwood was
another although whether we shall see him return for a second
time is very questionable. I think Keith Hill was the last of
the few, but he was away coaching refs in Japan for a couple of
seasons.
I assume Graham Salisbury (Checkatrade appt) is still the
'golden oldie' of the NL, with Andy Woolmer the oldest on the
SG2 panel. Who is the 'grandad' of the PL now that Roger East
has retired? Mike Dean?
'Retirees' - we still have Messrs Brown, Clark, East, Heywood,
Horwood and Madley R on the list from 2018/9, and I'm not sure
we can determine at this early stage who has joined them in
retiring (if indeed they do not reappear). Also I think 1-2 of
the teachers on the list will be taking a well-earned break
before receiving appointments. I have to say I am a bit
surprised to see Rob Lewis back out on Saturday in view of his
frequent absences, but I wish him well and an injury-free season
to come.

In addition to the names mentioned by AT, I beleive the
following non-SG1/SG2 referes were on the National List of
referees last season and haven't had an appointment on the
opening weekend of this: Boyeson, Bramall, Coggins, Collins,
Haines, Ilderton, Kettle, Kinseley, Marsden, Sarginson, Swabey,
Toner.
Obviously some of those will be on holiday or just not required
this weeken,d etc.

Kineseley is at Northampton on Saturday whilst Marsden has a
midweek Checkatrade tie. Sarginson had a PSF involving Crewe and
Toner will (I think) be on school holidays. If I was a betting
man, my money would be on refs such as Boyeson, Collins, Haines,
Ilderton and Kettle.

Both Collins and ilderton have had their injury problems for the
last 2 years so maybe they’ve decided to call it a day!

Marsden and Toner could still be on holiday this weekend as it's
only a fortnight since schools broke-up.

The NL list for 2019/20 has just been published on the EFL
website. Of the names mentioned:
Out - Brown, Clark, Collins, East, Heywood, Madley R
In - Boyeson, Haines, Horwood, Ilderton, Kettle.
There may be others. I'm surprised that Graham Horwood is still
on the list, another Darren Handley maybe, but the others were
perhaps predictable including Lee Collins who seemed to be
regularly absent last season.

Nailed on second yellow according to the Pompey report, no other
option.

Mr Handley did not look fit, neither did the assistant on the
side I was watching from. Yes it was hot but too many drinks
stoppages (6 minutes added).
Too many decisions given from distance, that may have been seen
differently if he had been closer. Because of this he nearly
lost the game, but he did recover. Perhaps just a bit rusty?
