Would this be a different rumour to the one that surfaced after
each of the last Four Seasons. Instead of Bye Bye Baby, it was
Stay.

He seems to have mellowed somewhat, particularly last season
where we didn't have half as many disasters that we have had the
pleasure of chewing the cud over... that said it can happen at
any time without warning.

He is good to go for another season.

He appears to been granted fitness of body and so may continue.
Judging by some of his decisions and match-handling over the
years, whether he has fitness of mind for the task of senior
refereeing is something about which the evidence is less
circumstantially conclusive.

He hasn't been good for the last 16 seasons; I don't know why
you expect this one to be any different !

There does seem to have been a decline in his malevolent
ruination of football matches; what you are left with is a more
benign, but still desperately poor, referee.

I concur with m'learned friend up to a point. Whether Kettle's
motivation for ruining football matches was a result of
malevolent intent or just plain incompetence I do not know.
Desperately poor though is a very fair summary of his
officiating. Extraordinary that he has been at this level for so
long.
