I agree DRS and better TV coverage provides some safeguarding
but my recollection of non geographically neutral umpiring from
years ago did provide some pretty dire decision making. The
clamour for neutral umpires was such that the cricket
authorities were really forced into it.

I agree. With the elite panel being full time international
umpires now they would have their own careers to think about.
Although with Joel Wilson he is accused of being incompetent
instead of biased. Would that be the case if an English umpire
was in that situation ?

I must say I have an element of sympathy with Mr Palliyaguruge.
Whilst I don't necessarily think he is the best umpire on the
International panel, to be given a prestigious Ashes appointment
only to be removed due to the incompetence of supposedly elite
colleagues is a bit harsh! Here's hoping that Erasmus and
Dharmasena can change the fortunes of officials in this series!
