Joel Wilson makes one of the most crucial mistakes in an Ashes
test match by not giving Ben Stokes out LBW - but the Aussies
can only blame themselves for wasting a review the previous
       over.

Wilson has been hopeless all series... if this is the best the
ICC have to offer for non English and Australian umpires then
       there is a serious problem.
As for Stokes.. a marvellous innings to win the test and i even
stayed in to watch rather than enjoying the sunny Sussex
       weather.

Brilliant Test Match, incredible innings by Stokes, but as has
been said the Aussies have only themselves to blame. Not just
the wasted and poor review a couple of overs previously but Lyon
at the bowling end failing to hold on to a throw when Leach
would have been run out. Australia would have won by 1 run
either on the run out or the LBW appeal at the end. Sadly, Joel
Wilson ended this Test Match as he began the first.

Wilson looks terrified every time he has to make a decision -
think he could do with a bit of a time out

one of the best ashes tests Iv'e seen. but unfortunately the
officials weren't up to the quality of the match. Hopefully
Erasmus and his partner who's name I can't spell will be an
       improvement.

Has to be said, the umpiring overall has left a lot to be
desired. Joel Wilson, in particular, has had a shocking series,
and needs some time off before being appointed again. Chris
Gaffaney was poor at Headingley, but had a good test at Lord's -
it's a shame he's quite inconsistent, because he can be a good
umpire on his day. Aleem Dar has been well below his usual
       standards too which was disappointing.
Looking ahead, I'm pleased Marais Erasmus will be standing in
both tests, as he is comfortably the best umpire on the ICC
Elite Panel at the moment. I worry for Ruchira Palliyaguruge as
I have seen nothing so far to convince me he is good enough - he
was poor in the World Cup, and not much better in the England v
       Ireland test.

The ICC have made changes to the appointments for the last two
tests. Erasmus and Dharmasena for both tests. Wilson sadly
shows what happens to any official when they lose confidence.
Was this his first time in tests in England. While we were poor
with our referrals, how he could not give that last
       LBw out.
More I think about it more I think he simply didn’t have the
courage to make a big call.

Good decision - it would've been totally unfair on Ruchira to be
given a test with such high stakes when he's still relatively
inexperienced at test level. Let's hope Dharmasena and Erasmus
have a better 2 tests than what's gone on at Edgbaston and
       Headingley.

Whilst i agree with what has been done it does make me wonder
what the ICC thought was going to happen in this series, the
implication was that they expected one side to be unasailable?
Otherwise surely 4th and 5th tests were always going to be the
       deciders?!

Completely ridiculous that the best umpires who are from England
and Australia can't umpire their own nations. With DRS and the
high intensity tv coverage any hint of bias, which I would say
is non existent, they would be much much better than the dross
       we've had thus far.
