Joel Wilson has had an absolute shocker so far - was it 9 of his
decisions have been overturned? Allan Dar not a lot better
either. I wonder if both might be replaced before the second
test.

I have been appalled at the standard of umpiring in this test
match. Dar has done about 125 test matches but experience
counts for little when you look at some of his howlers. As for
Wilson, words fail me. I wonder what he was watching for some
of his calls. He is less experienced for sure, but he is way
below the standard required at this level. By the end he was
like a rabbit in the headlights, dithering on what to call, and
I suspect he was almost guessing at one point.
It seems obvious that most of the top umpires are English or
Australian, so we need them to be included. Appointing one from
each country, (e.g. Kettleborough & Reiffel) would be fine, and
with DRS it is not likely that we would return to the shambolic
days of blatant bias we saw decades ago. It could hardly be
worse than this! (IIRC, in an away Ashes series in the early
70s, I believe England did not get an lbw decision in 6 tests
and there was much controversy about the incompetence and bias
of their umpires.)

The umpiring was so poor. Both umpires looked like their
confidence was destroyed. I feel for Wilson first big test. But
Dar....he was umpire of the year several times. What has
happened there.
Great win for the Aussies but for me the highlight was when Dave
Warner was being heckled by the crowd....he turns out his
pockets. Well played.

Good day for the umpires today - Dar has found his form again
and some good calls from Gaffeney

How does Aleem Dar not give that out??? Thank goodness for the
3rd Umpire. Hitting middle stump and 12 inches down. Is there
anything else more “plumb”.

Not that sure about the 3rd umpire. I thought Wilson's decision
on the Root catch was highly debatable as one angle seemed to
show that the ball hit the ground first.

Yes agreed but because the soft signal on field was out the 3rd
umpire has to have conclusive proof that it's not out in order
to overturn. They explained that after as being the protocol.

Joel Wilson having another poor game - his confidence looks shot
unfortunately. Wonder if his place on the panel will be
reviewed.

Yet his decisions on review have been upheld, leading to a Ch 5
pundit praising him.

One of them was upheld for the wrong reason - Wilson gave an LBW
and there was a thick edge so it was given out caught at gully!
