Poor start from Dar. The caught down the leg side didn’t look
convincing at the time so I can forgive him that. But the LBW he
gave out was clearly leg side. Dar had spoken to Warner about
standing outside of his crease and yet forgot that key fact when
making his decision.
On a separate note, players use of DRS is really irritating me!
It’s meant to be there for poor decisions so why on earth did
Root “have a look” at an appeal that was clearly going over the
top!?!? He should know broad is a poor judge of LBW off his own
bowling!

Dar having a shocker.
Given Smith LBW not playing a shot, not even close.

Bob Willis used to castigate umpires he didn't like or rate if
they made just 2 or 3 wrong decisions in the whole of a test
match, especially Billy Bowden.
I wonder if he'll give the same treatment to an umpire that
generally has been highly thought of like Dar.
Sorry to say I can't readily recall a TM with so many wrong
decisions in such a short time as Nasser recently highlighted.
It's not as if some were all that difficult. Really hope they
improve for the rest of the match.

Nasser's classic summary of the umpiring errors today will
probably end up as an addendum to the well known tea towel
description of cricket for the uninitiated! Summarising Dar
and Wilson as 'shocking' is perhaps an understatement but more
accurate than Athers earlier comment that the umpiring had been
'ordinary' (which I daresay in MCC speak may well amount to the
same thing!). Scampering off at the first hint of rain, only to
retake the field a few seconds later when it came to nothing,
scarcely enhanced their reputation either.
Dar's reputation has certainly nosedived in recent seasons and I
think the decline set in with the growth of his beard.
Certainly before that I always felt that he was up there with
the best. Whatever the doubts about VAR in football, thank
heaven for the review system in cricket, without which there
would have been several injustices on the first day of the Ashes
tests. Surely, the umpiring can only get better.

The umpiring was so poor it was unbelievable. Willis has hit the
nail on the head by saying the best umpires should be used
regardless of nationality.
Never rated Wilson particularly highly and today’s dross
highlights it perfectly.

Simply not good enough. Surely Dar and Wilson should be
replaced for the second and third Tests.

The issue is the lack of suitable replacements! Erasmus and
dharmasena could arrive early for the series but outside of them
there is no one else! Mr Ravi must be furious watching this
series from home!
On a separate note, the commentators suggested some of England’s
poor cricket against Ireland could be put down to fatigue. Could
this be a similar story for umpires as well? With the increase
in international cricket, is it time the ICC invested further in
umpiring and increased the size of the elite panel?

Joel Wilson trending as Twitter’s number 1 is not a good sign.
Two poor LBW decisions this morning to add to the collection.

Even the commentators on TMS have suggested they think that both
umpires should be replaced for the remainder of the series! I
wonder what the icc will do (if anything!)
