Ipswich v Norwich - Rob Jones

       That rarest of sightings today.
A referee at Portman Road who was both even-handed and
       competent.
Presumably Tim Robinson, who failed miserably to exhibit either
of those two basic qualities last Ipswich home game, was told to
come along with the numbers board and watch carefully to see how
       it should be done.
(Nothing there today to change my opinion formed when I first
saw him a few years ago, that he is destined for the very top.)

Best referee in the Championship by a country mile.

I first saw him when my team, Argyle, got beaten 4-0 at home and
I immediately thought he is classy. His approach is like no
other, calm and relaxed, which immediately gets the respect he
deserves from players. He will be the UK's next big thing, give
       him a few years.

Ipswich do seem to get all the dross at Portman Road don’t they!
However Jones clearly isn’t in the same ilk as the likes of
Robinson and Davies. I’d happily put ten bob on Jones being SG1
       next season.

It really doesn’t help Ipswich that the southern based SG2
referees are Robinson, Davies, Stroud and now Ward.
As for Mr Jones yesterday, he used the classic opportunity to
have lengthy words to a player from each side early on and took
it from there. Ipswich had a lame penalty appeal during the
first half which I was some distance from but I thought that it
was a dive from the loanee Jordan Graham. It was no surprise
when he awarded Norwich the free kick and cautioned Graham. It
was a very assured performance and Mr Jones is much closer to
appearing in the Premier League than the two teams in this
       match.
It was good to see Mr Robinson get involved and split up two
players during an altercation during the second half. It was in
his previous fourth official appearance at Portman Road that he
somehow missed Loovens assault on McGoldrick.

In fairness I don't think Loovens deliberately did McGoldrick
last season, and rather us Wednesday fans would tell you that he
just got too old and slow and made a mess of it. Still a
blatant red card though that he missed.
Same referee that sent off Forestieri for simulation at Hull
when Dawson studded him in the shin. Dawson even said after he
thought he was in trouble and would be walking. I'm yet to see
a game refereed by Tim Robinson where I have been impressed by
him, he strikes me as the archetypal manufactured referee and
doesn't really know what to do when things start going against
him. As opposed to Rob Jones, who looks like a total natural.

Perfectly summed up rustyref about the relative merits and
demerits of Messrs Jones and Robinson

I saw Rob referee Wigan v Portsmouth a couple of years ago and I
was massively impressed with him as was the assessor that day
Uriah Ronnie. Rob is destined for the very top and good luck to
       him.

Does anyone know how old him and Robinson are out of interest?

Robinson is 34. Think Jones is around 27
