Just seen this pic of Tony Morley on Twitter, but I don't
recognise the referee at all. Any ideas?

Not got my Upton's with me (on holiday) but could it be John
Hough of Macclesfield? I recall he had a 'tache like the one in
the picture.

Don't think so. I seem to recall he was quite a small chap, a
little bit similar in facial appearance to Eddie Lomas. The
bloke in the picture looks like Ian Botham!

Reminds me of Norman Sansom the former Scottish RU referee, so

Am I right in thinking that in his early days on the FL that
Roger Milford sported a moustache. Perhaps it is him

Certainly the hair is enough in the bouffant style and the
shorts sufficiently skimpy to suggest it might be Milford.

Great picture! From the Villa kit it's clear this is from a
match from 1981 or later. My first thought was the referee
looked completely unfamiliar. However the suggestion of John
Moules in the Twitter thread got me thinking and may be correct.
I have a picture of John Moules (apparently) from 1983 who does
look quite like this man. I'd upload it here but it seems no
longer possible to upload pictures as I get messages saying "the
upload folder is full". In both cases the pictured referee does
look very different to John Moules of later years but a
moustache and changes in hairstyle / hair colour can make a
referee look very different. If it were not John Moules I
wouldn't have any other suggestion but like others I'd certainly
be interested to find out who it is.

I bow to your greater expertise LF but a look at John Moules i/c
Hereford v Man Utd in the FA Cup 4th round in Jan 1990 shows a
man with jet black hair which this guy clearly doesn't have. I
accept that hair colour may change over 8-9 years but darker
than before....? ;D

Can't help I'm afraid except to say except I'm pretty sure
it's not Messrs Hough or Moules nor even Milford as I remember
him.
