An interesting one John. I recall we had a discussion on the old
RTR ISOR about Mr Judson disappearing off the scene part way
through the 1971/2 season. MIght this injury have been the
reason why (in the same way as A Dimond and P Crossley, although
Phil did return to the list to complete his career). And might
Bradford City v York have been Ron's swansong on the list? I
could add him to my database of last games if it was. Does
       anyone know? Thanks.

Again, interesting. However,GW Lynch was a local Bradford area
referee. He was involved in West Riding cup games at P.A. and
       other clubs.

Yes Lynch was a "proper" ref but was there as a spectator

That is the last game he was definitely in charge of. He is
listed as referee in the programme for Chesterfield-Plymouth on
30.10.1971 but whether he actually refereed the game is unknown.
He was also appointed two weeks later for the Man Utd-Tottenham
game but was definitely replaced for that game by john Hunting.
Thereafter he doesn't seem to have refereed another League game
but does seem to have been a referee assessor (possibly a senior
one) for the Football League in 1977. He died in 1984.
As regards his injury at the Bradford City game, his replacement
Alan Bradley of Church, Accrington was later a linesman for the
last-ever Amateur Cup Final in 1974 after which he retired.
Greater fame came to him after refereeing when he met Rita on
       Coronation Street [emoji1]

       5th March 1997
Brentford .v. Wycombe Wanderers, Football League Division Two.
Referee Barry Knight "retired" after about 63 minutes. Senior
Linesman Andy Legg completed the game with Gary Parish (Junior
Linesman) and 4th Official John Keegan.

I do remember Andy Davies replacing Jarnail Singh in an AFCB
game when he was still an AR. Mr Singh had not endeared himself
to the home or away crowd at the time and Andy both entered and
exited the pitch to a standing ovation from both sets of fans!
Andy told me many years later that it was one of his most
surreal moments at a football match!!

I always remember a league cup game between WBA and Arsenal
where Trevor Massey got injured so had to be replced at half
time. Dermot Gallagher happened to be in the stands watching so
became 4O only for Matt Messias to get a calf strain in the
second half. Fortunately, after treatment, he managed to carry
on but I think that might have been the closest a top flight
game came to having two officials go off injured?

There was a Premier League game with three referees. Details
are vague ... I believe it was an evening game, the late Ian
Mitchell was involved and it might have involved Crystal Palace
(but then it might not). Can anyone fill in the (considerable)
       gaps?
