So Andrew Dallas seems to have definitely been ditched. Having a
father in high places doesn’t seem to have saved him.
Don’t know a lot about Scottish refs but my impression was that
he was fast tracked for reasons we can conclude ourselves. Maybe
our Scottish friends can enlighten us - was he that good and are
the reasons for his removal purely performance based?

Seems a bit strange that he, of all people, either didn't know
or couldn't have found out, just what sort of commitment was
involved in refereeing at this level. Was it a case of him
deciding to jump before being pushed?

IMO, he was treated as a talented referee by UEFA and I would
rather expect promotion for him.

It's one thing knowing and another actually experiencing it. He
certainly isn't the first referee (or indeed employer in a range
of industries) to step down from a higher profile position
because of the pressures of the job or the time commitment
involved - I have seen many people do it in the area that I work
in and find it fully understandable. I'm not sure that Dallas
was particularly likely to reach the top of international
refereeing so I guess it's maybe a bit like Jamie Carragher or
Jamie Vardy retiring early from international football - why
bother doing all that travelling and training, etc. if most of
the time you're just going to be on the bench when you could
instead focus on your domestic commitments and spend more time
with your family, etc?

I agree absolutely that it can be difficult to appreciate the
time or other pressures of a job until you have tried it but if
you have a father or other close relative or friend who has done
it successfully at a high level, you should be in a better
position than most to be able to weigh up the pros and cons.

Interesting few years ahead, especially towards the next World
Cup. Many members of the Elite will be older than the 45 year
old limit, including the likes of Brych, Skimonia and Rocchi.
Many prospects also amongst the First and Second Categories.
