C KAVANAGH - Liverpool v Man City

Good from Kavanagh in the first half. After the little push and
shove in the opening ten minutes, things have settled down and
he’s let the game flow and let some of the physical stuff go
too.

I think his foul recognition has been all over the place. Given
fouls when the ball was clearly played.

Very harsh second yellow for me.

Red card for that? Laughable. Kavanagh sucked in by city
players. Neither tackle was worthy of a caution.
Enzo waving an imaginary card but no sanction

In my opinion, both are incredibly soft, in comparison to other
things he's not giving as fouls/yellows.

Poor from Kavanagh today. The Sky commentary team rightly saying
both yellow cards were harsh. I've found his positioning and
foul detection to be well off the usual standard from him.

I don’t normally go this strong but he’s ruined the game by his
application of cautions. This didn’t necessarily need a strong
disciplinarian on this game. It just needed someone to keep
control of it.

His decision has swung the game. People work hard all week to
enjoy a game at the weekend to have it ruined by a decision like
that. Hes been inconsistent today, falling for everything City
have done. The Enzo not being sanctioned for waving the card
sums it all up.

Ah Chris K, he's rated highly enough to be on UEFA's elite list,
so someone clearly sees something. I just don't always see it
from the stands and in all the time I’ve seen him in person,
I’ve constantly bemused at those who rate him. Personally feel
he’s easily led and that decision was weak.
For me it comes down to consistency. The line on what's a foul,
what's a booking and what's "play on" seems to move during a
game, so players never quite know where they stand. A challenge
that gets waved away early on can be a yellow card later, and
the same goes for the other team. When the standard keeps
shifting, tempers fray and the game gets scrappier.
As others have noted, his reading of contact is hit and miss
too. He's often well placed, which makes it worse when he gets
it wrong. Being out of position is forgivable. Having a clear
view and still getting it wrong is harder to excuse. The sheer
farce at Villa Park in that cup game was a perfect encapsulation
of him for me

And you would have controlled it how?
He’s only done one for waving a card, one for O’Reilly (studs on
top of foot, always a yellow), and Gravenberch twice. Second
isn’t a massive foul but it is a SPA, I missed the first. If he
doesn’t do the second the other naysayers say it’s only because
he was on a yellow. Risky challenge to make on a yellow for me.
