Oh dear. That's a really poor decision to give a penalty to QPR.

3 week break and it hasnt taken long for the first howler.
I cant really offer any defence as he had a great view, it was
clear by the speed the ball was played that the defender played
it as the QPR was just trying to dribble.

I wonder if he tried talking to his team? Anyone can make a
mistake but surely one of them saw it correctly

Very poor. Clubs in the Championship may not want VAR but this
is an example of why they may change their mind. West Ham will
be very frustrated and it will be a test of the referee's
mindset.

This is one to support the view of the "we wan't VAR in the
Championship" brigade. Just a clear and obvious error that has
been comptely misred of the field.

Could this affect his 4th Official appointment at Southampton vs
Portsmouth on Sunday? If I remember correctly, Micheal Salisbury
got taken off of a big game VAR appointment for a mistake he
made on VAR the day before, or may they view the fact he is a
4th Official as not significant enough.

I doubt it, but it would hinder his chance of getting a PL debut
anytime soon id imagine

No, this was just an error of judgement. He didn't get the
opportunity to watch it multiple times on video before still
coming to the wrong conclusion.
This is why senior referees generally won't give a penalty if
there is no appeal. Sometimes our eyes play tricks on us, and
whatever he thinks he saw here clearly didn't actually happen.
It will be a real test for him now as there's no doubt he will
be told at half time that he got it badly wrong, he'll be told
by the TV floor crew and the West Ham coaching team.
