Oldham v Salford - Isaac Searle

This was a live Sky TV offering today but I only caught brief
highlights.
A major talking point was Isaac Searle blowing for half time two
minutes early. Sky’s timer showed four additional minutes and
two minutes 14 seconds had elapsed.
The referee had a rather puzzled, not to say, alarmed look on
his face as the error was pointed out to him and embarrassingly,
he had to wave the teams back out to complete the half.
Not sure what happened, whether it was a simple error or a
stopwatch malfunction, and I think the fourth official drew the
referee’s attention to it.
Not the first time this has happened over the years of course,
infamously in an African Cup of Nations match that was ended
prematurely a few years back and also at my local club, Leyton
Orient when Alan Young blew for half time early, took the
interval and played the final few minutes of the first half
after the interval.
Not a good thing to be happening for a new referee on a live TV
match - there may be some explaining to do.

At least the mistake was spotted and remedied immediately.
From what I have seen/heard of Mr Searle the twice he has
referred Tranmere games, I would hope that the brakes are put on
any pushing him too far too fast by those responsible for his
development.

Blue 3 deserves a card. It doesn't matter that we're playing an
'emotional' game, or whatever tosh comes out to excuse it, as an
adult you don't behave like that in another adult's face. Be
polite, if you feel the need to get involved, and have an adult
conversation.

Definitely agree.. he had to tell him to relax about 5 times. It
wasn’t even something to get worked up about - it was obvious
the issue was going to be fixed very quickly. To be honest it
may have been Stockbridge completely responsible for the
blunder, who knows what was said over comms

What I have heard is that the referee said 2 minutes but 4
minutes was put up.
