MLS Next Pro - PSRA Official Statement

"During a recent MLS NEXT Pro match, a male head coach committed
two deliberate acts of physical abuse and sexism against a
female official -- squeezing her hand and refusing to let go
after being told to stop three times.
This physical intimidation was compounded by a demeaning, sexist
remark to the official: "Don't forget, this is a man's game."
MLS NEXT Pro investigated and responded with a two-game
suspension and other non-suspension discipline.
U.S. Soccer policy states a “forceful grab” like this requires a
minimum three-game suspension. Acts of discrimination also
require a minimum three-game suspension. MLS NEXT Pro’s own
manual also states that coaches are held to “a higher
professional standard than players.”
The League’s response falls drastically short of the right
message to the participants, the referees, and the public. It
needs to be reevaluated.
Women make every level of this game better. They should not have
to endure intimidation or degrading comments to prove it. Our
female officials have proven their excellence on the world
stage. They deserve the same respect, dignity, and safe working
environment as every other official."
That was a statement made by PSRA in America. This is truly
disgusting, and I hope the offending coach is banned from
football for life, and receives further consequences..
It has been so refreshing to see American Officials, including
Tori Penso & Brooke Mayo, stand together on Social Media, flying
the message 'We belong'.
This isn't a "men's game", it is everyone's game.

You're absolutely correct, it's not a mens game it's a game for
everyone. I find it even more shocking that it's happened in the
USA, which is arguably one country where the womens game is
bigger than the mens game! or certainly on a par with it.

Never fails to amaze me (but I should know better by now) how
FAs and leagues simply will not take a clear stance on things
and stick with it. It almost makes it worse to say all the right
things and create clear punishments only to then ignore them
when the issue actually happens. Easy to produce campaign
gimmicks and glossy posters and slick video clips, but simply
won’t do the easy bit of sanctioning clear offences.
In a game like football, which has such a world appeal and no
shortage of participants, it should be easy to have red lines
for things like this that are simply factual and unjustifiable.
