Stoke v Sheffield Utd - Tim Robinson

I've seen a few posters asking for Tim Robinson to be given a
Premier League game but on yesterday's Championship showing it
might be a long way away.
Robinson booked three players in the first half, yet for me, the
worst challenge was a reckless one from Kitching, making studs
to ankle contact, on McGlynn after the ball had been played.
Robinson didn't even have a word for the challenge, just stood
with his hands on his hips looking rather disinterested, that
seemed his overall demeanour throughout the match.
Into the second half, Robinson's inconsistency with giving
soft/cheap free-kicks continued while letting physical
challenges go. That saw players take matters into their own
hands, especially when Kitching clattered Graham. That foul saw
some handbags, resulting in Robinson finally booking Kitching,
only after brandishing his yellow to Stoke's Bocat and
Galbraith.
The other talking point will have been Stoke's second. I felt
from my seat Gallagher looked to have strayed offside, but I'm
not sure where Shackleton's position was at right-back for
Sheffield Utd. Not heard any complaints from Wilder, so presume
the assistant was correct to keep his flag down.
Final point - Robinson seemed slow on any countdowns, especially
in the first half. I felt a couple of times he held the five
seconds longer than necessary to allow Cooper to release the
ball rather than dealing with the impact of so-called
time-wasting.
With how the SG1 and SG2 lists have been merged for this season,
I'd expect Robinson has fallen down the pecking order for
top-flight games, especially when you've got the younger talent
in Hallam, Herczeg and Josh Smith all getting appointments
before him. After this performance, I think we'll see more of
him at this level than going higher for the foreseeable given
his inconsistent decision-making and sanctioning.

If the player is in the process of releasing as the last second
ticks over, the consensus seems to be to let them play. Where
there’s no prospect of release that’s when it’s penalised.

I’ve seen a lot of posts about Mr Robinson, yesterday was the
first time I’ve seen him live and have to say I thought he
handled the match really well and used his experience. Moved
well, got into good positions but importantly looked like he had
the respect of the players or certainly the majority of them.
Liked how he set a high bar, players responded well to it in
general and got on with it without moaning. Agreed, he probably
missed a couple of fouls but who doesn’t if we are being totally
honest and fair and the caution for Phillips was probably harsh,
but would say no other player attempted to stand in front of the
ball for the remainder of the match. The comment of being
disinterested I think is really unfair and poor because that
didn’t come across in away at all.
Haven’t seen any negative comments around the match officials
from the game so would suggest they did OK. Decent game in my
opinion, certainly seen less convincing performances this season
but I guess that’s what makes this game so great.
