Darren England BHA v Arsenal

Didnt see the game but come on, how VAR did not have a look at
this is baffling. Surely it warrants a review for violent
conduct. Rice intentionally kicks (with some force) the BHA
player completely off the ball and with ZERO Footballing intent.

Looks more like a trip than a kick to me. Still, stupid thing to
do

Open letter to Howard Webb
“Dear Mr Webb,
As a lover of football and, above all, an advocate of
consistency in refereeing please can you explain the difference
between Phil Foden’s red card last week and Declan Rice’s yellow
card today? I mainly ask because if Foden’s is deemed violent
conduct then I see no reason why Rice’s isn’t. In fact Foden was
reacting to a violent kick from Fernandes whereas Rice just took
it upon himself to kick the Brighton player without any
provocation.
Thankyou in advance for clarifying this for those of us baffled
by what we see as inconsistency”

We know Haalands should have been disallowed. It was a major
error by the officials.
If you want consistency, see VVD disallowed goal vs City last
season. Keeper had no chance, but Robertson ever so slightly in
his way. Result was offside.

I wait for the Bruno fernandes-style bashing from posters on
this forum re this behaviour by Rice or will they be silent
because he’s a key English performer?

This is a silly comparison. The Haaland goal is a widely
acknowledged error.
Two wrongs don't make a right. What do you want them to do? Keep
ignoring offside players who don't play the ball but are
interfering, just because they incorrectly did it once?

Well someone who kicks someone on the ground is most certainly
due some ‘bashing’ but so too is Declan Rice.
Clear red card for me. Don’t buy the tripping argument for a
moment, this wasn’t clipping someone’s heel, he was angry, ran
after his opponent and kicked him. The fact he didn’t follow
through with a massive boot and connected more with his upper
leg is irrelevant, indeed the law permits a red card without any
contact.
Again we will be told about force and brutality and not over
reacting and understanding emotion.
More or less drivel in my view. The law on excessive force and
brutality is not intended, by text or spirit, to entitle players
to ‘gently’ assault opponents. A little petulant shove or a
flick, ok, perhaps one can understand a yellow card. But if this
incident and the Fernandes kick last week are now allowable
under the EPL/ProRef application of the laws, they are now
sanctioning this totally non football thuggish behaviour. I
cannot understand why anyone wants this.
The only consistency in ProRef’s interpretation and application
SFP/VC seems to be that sending players off must be avoided at
all costs.

There’s a few more angles of the Rice incident here. It’s one
that will certainly split opinion, but I still don’t see
anything more than a trip. Had the ball been there, I don’t
think anyone even considers this being a red.

He looks at the player, changes his running path away from the
ball, pulls his foot back and then moves it forward at a
reasonable enough speed towards the player. Thats not a trip, a
trip is a stretch or single forward movement towards the player,
not one where the foot moves back to gather momentum before
going towards the player which is a swing, which is what
happened here. Its a red card. Opinion is not split, its
divided, with a larger proportion thinking red, according to
popular media and pundits anyway.
