Oliver obviously didnt see the Fernandes kick otherwise hed have
gone for a card id like to think. Donohue should be stepping up
as VAR to say there was an attempt to kick that Michael has
missed, making it a C&OE

The issue I have is that if Fernandes doesn’t act in that way,
then neither does Foden. Foden should know to control himself
but ultimately he’s been booted at 50% in the back. There isn’t
any mitigation.

The fact people are spilt about Bruno being sent off probably
proves Donohue was right not to get involved. Bruno should have
been booked though.

Absolutely a nailed on red for foden , but what provoked him to
react like that ? Fernandez going completely unpunished leaves a
nasty taste , doesn't sit right and doesn't look fair .

Particularly when you think back to the non-red card for Dalot
on Doku.

Was it ever thus? Retaliator gets a heavier penalty than the
perpetrator. You cannot kick out like that into the stomach and
neither can you upgrade a punishment because of how the
retaliator responds. I do understand why Foden did what he did,
he could only respond as he did. In retrospect I would suspend
Foden for 2 matches in mitigation.
A few questions for me. What did Oliver see and say? Did he see
Fernandes's provocative kick? Maybe it will come out in the
wash.

It’s often retaliation that gets punished (see Rogers / Rice
last week) and now this.
Fernandes knows exactly what he is doing. It is deliberate. Red
and red would be the correct decision.

There should be no room for interpretation in the laws when a
player deliberately kicks a player on the ground

Only seen the incident on a pub tv and it wasn’t clear then how
much Mr Oliver saw of the cause of the incident. I would be
disappointed if he saw what Fernandes did to initiate the
incident and took no action. If unsighted for the reasons
already posted, VAR unlikely to get involved. Agree with what
you say about retaliation and Foden red card seemed inevitable.
