Back in the day, when a sense of humour by the appointing
authorities was still allowed, they would sometimes try to put
‘appropriate’ trios out together on 1st April - just to give
spectators a laugh. One I seem to recall was Messrs. Batty,
Bent and Crook being on one game. I thought such a thing would
be unthinkable nowadays, but looking at the above, maybe not.
And it’s not even April Fools Day!

We had at Fulham v Newcastle many moons ago East and West as
linesman to Dowd.
I think Kettle was holding the numbers board… but can’t be
certain.
