Oliver refereeing without a headset in the second half. Old
       school.

Back to the olden days - no earpieces for the second half (from
       what I can see)?
Commentators say it was an issue with the comms. The camera
panned to Michael and it looked like he had nothing in, unless
it was out and blending in with his shirt?
Andrew Kitchen got any pigeons handy? Or does he get to rest his
       eyes for a half?

Proper old school hasn't done him any harm. According to PL
match centre VAR messages can be sent via his watch and a back
up communication system to the fourth official.

That’s a new one - never known for that to be possible before!
Then would Tom just have to shout at the top of his lungs to
       reach Michael?
At least it didn’t affect him - top offerings from Oliver as per
       usual!

Just goes to show that someone of the calibre of Oliver can
breeze through matches without the need for VAR to get involved.

Think the watch option is new, but there are multiple Premier
League officials (as in league officials not match officials) at
every game, so VAR can relay messages via them. Backup
communication system is probably a bit grand though, think it is
       more they phone them.

The article on BBC Sport says that the comms system wasn’t
filtering the crowd noise out so it was extremely difficult for
the officials to communicate clearly with each other.
I wonder who actually decided to do the second half without
comms. Was it Oliver himself or were there technicians working
on it who said we can’t fix it?
Didn’t disrupt Oliver in any way shape or form. Another easy on
       the eye performance by him.

Causes absolute carnage inside a bag when a ref sneaks one into
them with the lid off, that much I can tell you, from 1st hand
       experience!!
