       My concern has now been supported by respected Palace Chairman
       Steve Parish in today's Times under the heading 'players will
       aim for defenders' arms'. Players at the top levels are coached
       to such a degree nowadays, including gaining benefits out of law
       changes, that I can see this happening, with VAR supporting
       penalty claims as a result.

       I think that that will undoubtedly happen, indeed I wonder
       whether Mane did just that to win the penalty. Certainly to me
       there didn't seem to be an obvious target for a "pass".  I also
       wonder whether we won't, in effect, have two definitions for
       handball.  One, primarily for defenders in their own penalty
       area where any contact with an arm results in a penalty whilst
       anywhere else on the pitch, out of var's primary area of
       interest, we will rely on the previous definition of deliberate.
       I can see a point in calling any contact with an arm that
       blocks shot on goal as a penalty, just as any contact with the
       arm in scoring a goal is penalised.
