A new approach???

I didn’t get to view last week’s Premier League offerings so
can’t comment on the officiating but the word on here was that
the officials did well.
Reasons? A lighter touch approach where the VAR is only
intervening if there is a real howler (why the system was
introduced in the first place) and leaving the on field
decisions to stay as they are. Also a bit more contact is being
allowed, helping the flow of the game.
On that note, some commentary on today’s incidents.
Liverpool - Nottingham Forest saw a penalty given by Sam Barrott
for a foul by Allisson, which was a clear cut decision. Michael
Oliver in VAR backed up the on field call. An earlier offside
against Liverpool was also
correct.
Bournemouth - Everton, Everton appealed for a penalty when
Dewsbury-Hall went to ground. Not for me. Dewsbury-Hall
initiated the contact, threw himself to the ground and the
Bournemouth player was scarcely aware that the Everton player
was there. Chris Kavanagh rightly gave no penalty, VAR correctly
backed this up. The only criticism I have is a yellow card could
have been given for simulation.
Tottenham - Newcastle, Tottenham appealed for a penalty but for
me there was no contact and Peter Bankes made the right call,
backed up by VAR.
So, so far, so good from the officials. If there’s been a sea
change in approach from ProRef top brass and the officials, then
at the present time, it seems to be working. Little in the way
of controversy and the on field performances are standing up to
the test.
Hoping this continues.

It’s good that VAR is not coming in unnecessarily and with less
frequency…
This coupled with the crackdown on time wasting and feigning
injury has helped the game massively.
No more regular double digit injury time minutes to play!
