I’m sure it won’t be the last time we’ll be having this
conversation this season. It was an issue last year and it’s
seemingly going to be an issue again. No different for team
Barrott on Thursday night either. He’s refereeing in the Faroe
Islands (my geography isn’t good enough to know where that is)
and is then holding the boards on Saturday. Hallam is 4O and
will be in the middle and VAR is England who has the Saturday
lunchtime kickoff.
Encouraging appointment for Bramall being trusted to open things
up at the Emirates. Happy with Farai Hallam at Portman Road and
good games for Attwell and Brooks.

The Faroes are just north of Scotland so around an hour flight
so no issues there. Pleased for bramall to open the season up
hopefully he can push on this season. Oliver with the big gamer
at Brentford. But worried about Attwell at Newcastle in a game
that’s had a lot of history in last few years and his decision
making can be haphazard at best

Pleased with Hallam and a great game for Brammall to open the
season. Also notable appointments for Stevens and Nelson on the
line

Strange not seeing the name 'Taylor, Anthony' on the first day
fixtures. I wonder how he's feeling as the big kick off
approaches. I first saw him in October 2008 at Blackpool when he
still had a full mop of hair, and he refereed the game v Palace
well in very testing conditions.

On a serious point about the travel, I think given the
reorganisation and the number of officials available, if an
official has a UEFA game midweek, just leave them off the coming
weekend. Maybe a local 4th official appointment if really
stretched.
They will likely be refereeing on the weekend before, which
isn’t a bad thing for sharpness when going into a UEFA
assignment, so I think two games in one week is more than
enough.
On a totally separate note, I’m really interested to see how
Craig Pawson is managed this season. I haven’t ‘run the numbers’
but I sense a decline in his use under Howard Webb and a
lowering in the quality of his appointments. I wonder if we will
see him or perhaps some other SG1 referees as they were sort of
semi demoted to hybrid EPL/Championship referees.
That said, I think Bramall is underused and he has the season
opener, so all to play for I guess!

not sure I agree on the point of pawsons appointments. Got some
massive games last season like arsenal United and Liverpool city
off top of my head. Had a excellent 2 games until the chaos at
end of city Liverpool but right decisions made in the end

They don't have anywhere near enough officials to leave them off
the following weekend. It isn't just the referee, you'd
presumably also be leaving off the assistants, and if it is
based primarily on the travel then also the 4th official and VAR
/ AVAR. It sounds fine in principal, but people would soon be
complaining if some of the perceived weaker officials are
refereeing EPL games whilst the best referees are at home or
holding boards up, especially if key errors were made.
Plus I would be pretty sure they wouldn't want to be left out,
these officials are incredibly fit these days and two games a
week is nothing for them, even with travel. Would Arsenal be
leaving Rice or Gabriel out on a Sunday if they'd played an EPL
game the following Saturday and and ECL game on Wednesday? I
very much suspect not.
