Times Article - The Impossible Job

In the Sunday Times there is an article about refereeing at the
top level by William Ralston based on his book :The Impossible
Job: The Truly Unbelievable World of Football Referees".
Interesting and questions some of the reasonable comments made
on this forum although obviously not specifically!
It is an fascinating article but for me the most notable fact is
how top referees give decisions despite seeing nothing. Gut
feeling takes over. So for example, a referee may not see
physical contact but what he does see looks, sounds and feels
wrong.
If anyone is interested in refereeing at elite level, this book
may interest you. What I came away is that comments like the
referee guessed may actually be, in a sense, correct. It is
called using senses, experience and gut.
The article doesn't mention instances where this went wrong
though. Good read.

The book is officially published next week but already available
via Waterstones and Ama$$on; also via Kobo. Looks to be a good
read for my holiday next month.
