2 reds this afternoon at Crawley already….
Both for Crawley for lashing out at Crewe players, both when
Crawley had the free kick too!
And now we’ve received a red. Our captain. I’ll have to watch
that again but I thought it was harsh.

Bradford City FC (First Team) v Peterborough United FC (First
Team)
Football League 1
Referee: Harrington, Tony
Assistant Referee: Grunnill, Wayne
Assistant Referee: Gray, Alex
Fourth Official: Rhodes, Garreth
It was a pleasant surprise to see a Premier League referee would
be at Valley Parade to start the season. Harrington breezed
through the game with minimum fuss and fitness and positioning
was on point which was nice to see. The only thing I would say,
is it was not obvious that he usually plies his trade at a
higher level. The errors he did make were fairly basic
decisions.
The red card for Okagbue was clearly correct (2 yellows) - to
answer TTFL’s question I’m afraid I’m not sure if a circle card
was produced as I sit at the other end of the pitch.
Peterborough had a consolation ruled offside, and a quick check
of the replay on my phone showed if Leonard wasn’t rolling
around injured he may have got back onside in time! Sorry to any
Posh fans reading, but it looks like a long season is on the
cards.

I’ll do the report at some point, but that was the maddest game
of football I’ve ever seen. If we play like that every game of
the season I’ll be dead by game 5… 😂

Three reds in a game is remarkable…
Pretty sure the next match official who gets Crewe will be
scrutinising the Crawley game very intently!

Scott Jackson showed the circle red card at Huddersfield! Looked
the right decision I might add too for SFP

Its unusual but - depending on what the players got up to - not
that remarkable!

Crawley Town (First Team) v Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Humphries, Andrew
Assistant Referee: Read, Greg
Assistant Referee: Tranter, Adrian
Fourth Official: Breen, Tommy
Where to start 😂
First half was absolutely nothing like the second whatsoever. 8
mins were added on, majority from the Crawley keeper going down
on two separate occasions. He did get subbed at half time. Both
bookings in this half were correct. Although the tackle on #10
was very late and off the ball to the point where Andrew didn’t
even see it. AR2 would’ve been looking right at it. I think it
wasn’t quite a red but more than a yellow. Yellow is fine, but
if there was an orange card that 100% would’ve been given. I
felt like he gave a lot of soft free kicks throughout the game,
but to both sides so I’m not fussed.
Second half…. Our #10 was getting frustrated through the first
half and this trend continued into the second. He left a late
one on the Crawley player, nothing malicious whatsoever.
Crawley’s #2 decided he wanted a piece of the action so decided
to push, with some force may I add, our #10 to the floor by the
throat. That’s the first red.
Second red came from our #20 who was purposefully pulling the
Crawley attacker from getting into free space. Andrew had pulled
out the yellow (correctly) before the Crawley player decided to
lob the ball straight at our #20. That’s the second red.
The THIRD (and final) red came from our captain, Demetriou, who
went for a ball that he was never going to make. I previously
said that I thought this second bookable offence was harsh,
however now I take that back from watching the highlights. 100%
a second yellow, so well done Andrew Humphries for getting all 3
KMI’s spot on.
And finally, in the 96th minute of the game, Josh March headed
the ball over the line barely, to which AR2 flagged it went
over. The away end went ballistic. It was a frustrating
afternoon as Crewe should’ve scored so so many more, and in the
end I do think we got lucky to win. Crawley’s nine remaining
players should be proud of themselves, particularly the 19 year
old goalie, who really tested Crewe and defended for their
lives.

Full disclosure..I follow Rochdale, but really disappointed with
Harrison Blair in the Newport v Rochdale game today. He reacted
to players feigning injury, he was rarely proactive and the
sending off was for 2 debatable yellow card calls. I'm a
champion for officials usually, but as a league official he
should be better than he was today.

I can't agree; I thought he had a good game and got both yellows
for Bilongo spot on. The first one was a ridiculous challenge.
If anything, it was nice to see a referee NOT blowing for every
instant of contact of physicality.
I'm more concerned about our performance today than that of the
referee.
