I can see that too
He's very articulate and possesses an impressive intellect.
He's been trotted out for a few "serious" discussions in the
media and I think that his excellent inter personal skills and
his authenticity (as opposed to some perhaps more manufactured
individuals) would, IMO, enable him to put some things over in
a more user friendly and accessible way than the current
scenario

I could definitely see him in that role but if he’s wanting to
stay away from the scrutiny, might not be the best thing for
him?

I would back Bramall 100% and I think he the only reasonable
option.
Peter Bankes is 44, and he is already a VMO so it isn’t like he
hasn’t got any form of recognition in terms of FIFA. Harrington
and Hooper are both around the same age.

to give another one out almost straight away instead of waiting

My money would be on Farai Hallam getting FIFA listed over
Bramall. Regardless of the merits of it; I’d say Hallam, then
Kirk, then Bramall are likely the pecking order.
Bramall has picked up tremendously in the last couple of years
and is now getting more of the appointments he’s worthy of… but
I suspect other stars are shining brighter now.

I'd have thought it would be Hallam who I feel is more likely to
be pushed towards the UEFA top groups where we are a bit
depleted at present. He did plenty of PL and big cup games in
the second half of last year and I expect he will this year too.

I'd add to that the Mental Health Advocacy work that he does as
well. He's always available to talk things through with, offers
advice when needed and support & encouragement when it's not
needed! I know he will continue that in whatever path he chooses
to follow next.
I'm really sad he has retired. I had a feeling it would be
coming, no inside info, just knowing with his age he would not
be wanting to go another 4 years just to hope England and
Argentina fall at the first hurdle & give him his shot at the WC
final.
I really hope he stays within refereeing in some respect.
Coaching, mentoring or even replacing Howard Webb as the big
boss man or maybe replacing Hugh Dallas. He has a lot to teach
and pass on and the lovely personality to do so in a positive
way.
I wish him all the very best for whatever path he chooses.

I’m in the not too surprised camp, go out at the top. Top level
refereeing is that intense now with every decision magnified to
the nth degree.
Fantastic career and best wishes to him for whatever comes next.

Sorry to hear this news and I wish Anthony all the very best for
the future.
I will add Anthony to my database of final games, domestic
leagues and cups only, West Ham v Leeds, PL, May 2026, being his
final game.

Sad to hear Anthony has decided to call it a day. Not too
surprised that he decides to go out after a very good World Cup
Tournament, we all know when its time to hang up the whistle.
I have not been his favourite fan in these forums in the past,
but i do salute a great refereeing career and some wonderful
achievements.
I wish him all the best for the future in whatever direction he
choses to go next, i hope it is within the refereeing community
as he can pass on his vast knowledge and experience.
In his early days on the premier league list i was not too
impressed as he seemed to let a lot of physical contact go
unpunished, finding his feet.
Anthony improved immensely and very quickly in the premier
league caldron, no doubt putting in a hell of a lot of hard
work. He finished a very accomplished career as one of our very
best referees in modern time and had great respect from the
players.
Anthony will be missed on the premier league and international
stage.
Go well, enjoy some well deserved family time and i hope life
goes very well for you sir.

Echoing what has already been put on here, but in my opinion,
Taylor is (was) simply the best PL referee. I'm gutted to hear
he is calling it a day, but I wish him all the best for a happy
and healthy retirement from the middle.
As others have suggested, it does seem very sudden. Personally I
don't blame him one bit for calling it a day. Go out on a high,
despite the plethora of suggestions/accusations surrounding this
year's FIFA World Cup.
