Surprised....slightly, shocked...certainly not. He had clearly
achieved all he could in the game (with Oliver likely ahead of
him for a CL final if English representation was given a
chance!)
What a remarkable career. A referee who more often than not was
simply outstanding. A case in point being the expert way he
handled the Tyne-Wear derby last season. Fitness, amongst the
best; decision making usually accurate; match control rarely in
doubt.
Best wishes to Mr Taylor and whatever the next chapter has in
store for him

What a career he’s had.
I guess he made the call that he’s probably reffed at his last
major international tournament. And he’s done everything
possible at domestic level. Given refereeing at that level is an
immense commitment I’m not so surprised he has chosen to call
time.

While I have been a critic of him dealing with Manchester teams
there were two reasons for this. Firstly that justice must not
just be done but be seen to be done and secondly for the undue
pressure that this puts on him. I am pleased to say that he
rose above my doubts and I wish him all he wants from
retirement.
Is he free to take over PMGOL ?

He officiated 2023 Europa League Final and 2020 Super Cup.

If, as has been muted a lot recently, Webb goes in the near
future could he possibly take over the PMGOL?

I would back Bramall 100% and I think he the only reasonable
option.
Peter Bankes is 44, and he is already a VMO so it isn’t like he
hasn’t got any form of recognition in terms of FIFA. Harrington
and Hooper are both around the same age.
The only other option would be to wait, but surely they’d want
to give another one out almost straight away instead of waiting
for the likes of Kirk to build up.

I'd put my bus fare on him working for PGMOL ProRef in the very
near future.

My money would be on Farai Hallam getting FIFA listed over
Bramall. Regardless of the merits of it; I’d say Hallam, then
Kirk, then Bramall are likely the pecking order.
Bramall has picked up tremendously in the last couple of years
and is now getting more of the appointments he’s worthy of… but
I suspect other stars are shining brighter now.

I think Oliver will have more on his shoulders than many think.
With Taylor and Oliver, they’ve had the luxury of having the top
& european appointments spread across them both.
Now, until Kavanagh has built european reputation, Oliver will
no doubt get a lot of appointments. Although, I don’t think
it’ll be long until Kavanagh gets some frequent UCL
appointments.
