Agreed it shouldn't really be a complete shock, but I am
surprised. The weekly appointments will certainly look odd -
shakes up PAR as well! ;)

Firstly, what an incredible career of refereeing at the very
highest level. Not many would have or will achieve what he has
in the world refereeing and he must be commended for that. His
professionalism and dedication to this job has been second to
none.
But what a shame it is to say arguably our top official in this
moment has called it a day. He may be the eldest on the PL list
but he is certainly still one of the very best we have to offer
and he will be missed next season in the PL. I was hoping to see
him at Portman Road next season but alas that won’t be the case.
It was a pleasure to meet him in December at an event with the
Kent FA and I’m so glad I got the chance to. A lovely person who
gave time to everyone who asked a question. Some people on here
know him more than me but he seems a great person behind the
whistle.
I wish him all the best in the future and a happy retirement.

I have a feeling you could be right, Kav sticks with Cook &
Hussin and Barrott gets Beswick and Nunn, or Cook & Hussin get
passed down to Sam and Chris gets Gary and Adam.
I can see reasoning behind splitting the two up and keeping them
as a pair - They’ve both got experience working with and
learning from the best, and can go and pass it down. But also,
they work so well as a team, it’d feel odd to see them split.
All I hope is that they stick with the same person, and don’t
become a ‘floater’ and have a different referee each week. I
think that’s the main thing they need to clamp down on - give
referees pairings, and for empty slots where there isn’t enough
PL assistants, rotate through a few EFL Assistants.

I wonder how long Anthony’s had this in thought, how much notice
he has to give, etc.
Could this be why Kavanagh was ranked up to Elite in preparation
for this, or was that just coincidental that these happened so
close together?
I am not the most clued up on how UEFA categories work, etc, so
sorry if this seems stupid!

This was a slight shock this afternoon. Im a second season
referee. Having watched quite a few games with him in the middle
especially over the world cup. My natural assumption would have
been the dropping the FIFA badge due to the age rule and
continuing like most former FIFA referees in the Premier league
for a couple of seasons before hanging the whistle up. My
strongest memory has to be his handling of erikson collapse at
Euro 2020 (2021) and his handling of the immediate aftermath.

While I have been a critic of him dealing with Manchester teams
there were two reasons for this. Firstly that justice must not
just be done but be seen to be done and secondly for the undue
pressure that this puts on him. I am pleased to say that he
rose above my doubts and I wish him all he wants from
retirement.
Is he free to take over PMGOL ?

Taylor will be a massive loss to English domestic refereeing. He
can look back on a stellar career with a huge sense of
achievement. Certainly up with the finest referees England has
produced in the last fifty years. Perhaps unfortunate never to
have had a major European Final but he hails from a country
whose teams regularly get to the finals. I am sure there is an
appropriate opening for him to remain in the world of senior
refereeing if he chooses to do so.

I expected him to do 1 more year but he did always say he
wouldn’t go to 50, so I’m not too surprised!
Echo what everyone else has said above - sad to be losing an
official of his calibre. I’ve never known him not be on the PL
list so that will be a bit odd! He’s always been a role model to
me and I wish him all the best.
Beswick is older than Taylor. Depends on how much longer he
wants to carry on, but I don’t see him being part of a regular
trio anymore.

Wow! Did not expect to be reading this on a Tuesday afternoon.
I definitely thought he had at least another season or two in
him.
He has had an outstanding career, one of the best referees this
country has produced and one of the best in the world. He can
hold his head up high with his career, two fa cup finals, play
off final, an Europa league final, as well as multiple euros and
world cups. Unfortunate not to get ucl but as others have said
English clubs get to it a lot.
Hope he stays in refereeing as he comes across as a wonderful
person who wants the best for everyone. Hopefully he will help
coach or mentor in some capacity.
Whatever he chooses, hope he enjoys his retirement, he’s earnt
it.

I'm not that surprised and said earlier this season that I
thought he might go this summer. My logic on that at the time
was he has been increasingly showing public annoyance at player
behaviour, not something I remember him doing previously, and he
looked a bit fed up.
