My view on the officiating!

---------------------------------------------------------
I have just returned from Greece where I managed to catch a few
matches. Watching on the apartment TV with the sound on mute was
rather a refreshing experience.
I think the standard of officiating has been really quite good,
other than that guy from Usbekistan who was totally dreadful. I
did wonder about the wisdom of appointing Elfath for the Semi
Final but I think he did perfectly well. I like watching Barton,
not afraid to show personality, but perhaps a bit of a loose
cannon.
The three outstanding performers for me were Venezuela, Oliver
and top of the class Turpin. I didn't get to see Taylor.
Surprised that Sampaio wasn't used more towards the business end
of the tournament but not disappointed as I don't think he is
anything that special. I was fully expecting Penso to get the
3rd/4th place game and surprised to see her not retained, again
a perfectly justifiable decision.
Vincic will need all his wits about him for Spain v Argentina
but I'm sure he's more than capable. Will have to lay out his
stall early on on as to what is and isn't acceptable I think.
Good luck to him.

Sorry I've put this on the wrong thread, meant to put it in
General Discussion. Might one of the Mods kindly move it there
please. WB

Good to see the admirable Whistleblower back!
I entirely agree with your astute assessment… yes there has been
some howlers and some of the performances have been sub
standard.
I do hope the five second throw in rule and the ten second
substitution window is adopted in all forms of English football
sharpish.
