referee was likely to have been wrong choice for this fixture -
now, without any shadow of a doubt, after watching the match, we
have to hold our hands up and say we were wrong - team ref coped
admirably with the occasion and the historic rivalry between the
two teams - and there was nothing remotely controversial in the
99+ minutes of play - congratulations to them all [emoji122]
       >
       > the anti- tuchel comments, both here and on almost every other
platform, are totally justified. england's tournament, taken as
a whole has been pretty average - beating an ageing Croatia,
unable to break down a resolute Ghana, a good 10 minute spell
with 2 goals in an otherwise uninspired victory over Panama,
fortuitous against DR Congo when wissa missed an open goal for
2-0, backs to the wall in final 20 mins v Mexico after
obligatory kane penalty and rode luck v Norway towards the end
of the 90 prior to extra time. the fact that the FA have given
their backing to the manager shows lack of ambition and the
extending of his contract prior to this tournament is frankly
crazy. the lack of tactical awareness displayed (not just last
night, but throughout the 7 games played in the finals) is
worrying, especially as this management was bought in
specifically to get us 'over the line'.
       >
       > at least losing last night will save us the embarrassment of
getting schooled by a vastly superior Spanish side in a final
(again) and no doubt a victory against an uninterested France in
a meaningless 3rd place match will be taken as an indication by
the media we are world beaters again.

Excellent post. You have summed up England’s mediocre (at best)
performances perfectly. Overhyped and boring, yesterday was a
       serious reality check.
Can I also ask in general, does Kane have an “I must not be
substituted” clause in his contract because he was awful again
last night, strutting around like an old carthorse and should
have been off long before the end. He contributed nowt and all
the hype about him is pathetic. 2 penalties, 3 headers from 6
yds and 1 other goal do not make him a Demi- god as some
journalists seem to believe. And just 1 assist too. Team player?
       I reserve judgement.
For the record I will go against a number on here and say I
thought Elfath was bang average at best.

Bit harsh for me. Not on Elfath, I’m with you there.
If anything he was maybe too much of a team player, dropping so
deep to help out and get the ball it left no out ball. We
mustn’t forget the goal that beat DRC which was a world class
finish only he in the team is capable of, that’s why you leave
him on. You could also make the argument that whatever type of
goal, you only ever get 1 for it so a 6 yard header counts the
       same.
But I’ve never been a fan of one lone striker, for England or
anyone. And especially when a 4231 and the 1 is no higher up
than just in your own half. I’d have left him on but see the
argument for bringing a Watkins style runner. Kane will never
run the length of the pitch to score even if he got the ball in
our half, so leaving him up there with support was the answer.
But if we did that and conceded then Tuchel would probably still
get criticised so I don’t know…I think they were probably always
       likely to score.

I do think Harry has been poor since the Congo game, but there's
2 reasons he's almost unsubstitutable in tight games. Firstly,
had you asked me at the 70 minute mark of the Congo game I'd
have said he was poor in that game, but for a world class
striker like him and Haaland, a goal can come from nowhere and
totally change the perception of their performance. Secondly,
imagine the stick Tuchel would have come in for if we ended up
drawing the game and losing on penalties because he'd taken our
       number 1 penalty taker off...

Moved post to here as I think it was time your historical
vendetta against harry kane probably deserves it's own audience
now rather than persistent hijacking of other threads just to
get another swipe on the board.

I believe that Kane was substituted in one game.
But I do agree with your assessment of the referee. He "got
away with it", but was not very good.

       hi,
based on the performance and attacking prowess of the england
team vs france without mr. kane, i think we probably have our
       answer...
       regards,
