It's the subs combined with failure to recognise their corner
routine and changes which they telegraphed last fixture. It's so
deflating and even more disappointing that Oliver/Taylor only
left due to England progression.

I’ll eat my humble pie. I thought it was a disastrous
appointment. But he did fine all in all.
Simeone should have been booked. But all in all nobody will be
talking about the referee tonight and that’s about as good as it
gets.
As for England. Meh.

I think taking everything into consideration the temperature of
the game, the amount of stuff happening , the pressure he was
under. The referee was excellent.

I actually thought Elfath handled a potentially very difficult
game quite capably I thought.
Some would say he could have applied more sanctions in the first
half but his positive body language and calm demeanour helped
defuse many situations. Do we want a hatful of cards or do we
want a well controlled game without making the referee the star
of the show?
The second half was much better, the players were getting on
with it and the referee was more or less unnoticed.
As a previous poster has rightly commented, England can have no
excuses and certainly Ismail Elfath cannot be held responsible
for the loss. England weren’t good enough - as so often happens
in knockout football against top class sides.

Credit where it’s due, I thought Elfath did well in a pressure
game. Still looks injured to me (limping at time?) but judged
involvement well and kept control with good alertness. Didn’t
overreact early on and wasn’t falling for any nonsense for both
sides.
For me, the Jordanian Makhmedeh for the final on performance,
and I’m always pleased to see a new name do well and just get on
with it, but think it’ll be Faghani. Thought he or Cakir
should’ve had the final in 2018, but he seems well liked and a
first final for AGC seems possible.
UEFA for 3rd place - Vincic (Pinehiro)?

I think Bellingham slapped an Argentina substitute - they showed
a short replay.

Don’t be daft, they’re the 4th ranked team in the world who will
finish 4th at worst, and only beaten by 1,2,3 ahead of them.
Say what you like about his subs and I’m sure we will…other
games he’s won by his subs, today it wasn’t to be. Hindsight is
always 20/20 and if we let one in after bringing an attacker on
we’d all be saying why not bring a defender on. Players gave all
they could and weren’t sucked in by the first half antics.
As for Elfath, he still does many things you’d pick an average
level 3 up for but can’t deny it’s a game largely delivered
safely. Whether that’s because or in spite of him, we will never
know. The England goal was the best thing that happened for him.
Doesn’t justify any superlatives but his performance won’t be
remembered, which is about the best you can hope for in any semi
final.
Genuinely have no idea who will get the final!

If he did just about sums up his night and impetuous behaviour,
a Real Madrid trait.
Tricky start to the game for Elfath, but think overall he can be
proud of his performance tonight. Well done team Ref.
As for England going to a back 5 ok but bring on a forward or
two with some pace to threaten them the other way. Ie Watkins
for Kane and Rashford earlier. Mainoo doesnt seem to fit in with
Tuchel somehow, similar to his time under Amorim.
