with the likes of Collina and Busacca, where others might think
something but not say it.

Something tells me it could be a dig at UEFA because they
defended Artan and stood up for him when FIFA were doing
absolutely nothing to help him, along with many other things
UEFA haven’t been happy with FIFA about and rightly so.
I am very surprised that Makkelie didn’t make it… does make you
think there’s something more than just ‘limiting the numbers’

I am very surprised at Ivan Barton being given the France vs
Spain semi-final.
He hasn’t impressed me much because he is a bit of a show off
and doesn’t give decisions and relies solely on VAR.
I hope I am proved wrong because I want the best game played for
all the football lovers out there like me!

Still quite a lot retained for not that many games.
Marciniak must be guaranteed for England v Argentina
I would bet actual (I wouldn’t really!) money on Elfath getting
3rd v 4th…the alternative is he gets 4th on the final with Jayed
reffing 3rd place
The final, I suspect if it ends up being France v England it
could be UEFA ref, most likely Vincic? That would be pretty
shrewd in my view and I don’t see why they’ve retained so many
UEFA refs if that’s not part of the thinking.
If it’s France v Argentina potentially Faghani with Makhmadeh or
Jayed 4th
If it’s Spain v Argentina potentially as above
If it’s Spain v England potentially Sampaio, potentially still
UEFA
Or that could all be a load of tosh and it’s Jayed’s.
Pinheiro may be a good shout for final 4th as well but I can’t
see him being on it if it’s Spain.

I agree with this 100%

said before he’s been long overdue a final based on his
performances but the powers that be in recent seasons don’t seem
to share that sentiment at this rate he will be one of the best
referees of his generation to have not got a major FIFA /UEFA
final !!

then England vs Argentina has got Marcinak on it with their
golden boy Vincic pencilled in for the final that’s my best
guess now

A statement from Danny Makkelie regarding his exit:
We have just been told that our World Cup is over and that we
have not been designated as a team for the last four games.
Of course we would have liked to have been part of this
beautiful tournament even longer. At the same time, we look back
on our achievements with great pride and a good feeling.
Ultimately, you only have an influence on what you can influence
yourself, and we know that as a team we have given everything
every day.
We were allowed to lead three wonderful matches: the opening
match between the United States and Paraguay, Haiti against
Morocco and France against Sweden. Three matches in which we
performed strongly as a team and for which we received positive
feedback and congratulations from the instructors and the FIFA
staff. We look back on that with pride.
I would like to thank my team, Hessel Steegstra, Jan de Vries
and Dennis Higler, for the great collaboration and the maximum
commitment. Together we did everything every day to perform on
the highest podium.
Furthermore, I would like to thank FIFA for the trust, the
wonderful experience and the appreciation we received during
this world championship. As well as the medical staff, the
fitness trainers, the technical instructors and the
administrative support deserve all the praise.
Also thanks to everyone at home: our family, friends,
colleagues, the management and technical staff of the KNVB and
everyone who has followed us in recent weeks, encouraged us and
has empathised with us. Your support and involvement have meant
a lot to us. We have greatly appreciated all the messages.
Now it's time to recharge and enjoy a well-deserved holiday.
After that, we again focus our eyes full of energy on a new
season.

Spoken and conducted like a true gentleman and referee , but
deep inside he must frustrated and angry at not getting a semi
or a final and can’t say I blame him

Maybe a quarter final short but I never really had DM as one of
the refs I expected to see on the final or semis.

People who know more about these things than me are saying that
the use of the Polish VAR for the FRA-SPA semi final means
Marciniak is unlikely to be referee for ENG-ARG the following
day.
