I am truly shocked with Makkelie not being retained . As I said
before he’s been long overdue a final based on his performances
but the powers that be in recent seasons don’t seem to share
that sentiment at this rate he will be one of the best referees
of his generation to have not got a major FIFA /UEFA final !!
So if as a previous poster said and Barton has France vs Spain
then England vs Argentina has got Marcinak on it with their
golden boy Vincic pencilled in for the final that’s my best
guess now

Before this appointment I was going to say for
France v Sapin Sampaio. For me Barton is a bold choice.
Argentina vs England Marciiaik- Argentina generally only get
UEFA refs- Yes I know that this is not the case at this WC but
historically at the last few tournaments.
Final Faghani from Australia.- pressure I assume for AFC to get
a ref to do the final and he is the leading candidate. Can
handle big games and can control and protect players. Irony is
he refereed France v Argentina in the round of 16 at the 2028
competition. I sSuppose Marciniak had Fra vs Arg in 2022-
wouldn't that be a pice of symetery but I do not think PLC is
too sentimental.

Kovacs didn’t make it out the group stages this tournament and
hasn’t been retained - were his performances unusual or may he
have a small injury or something? For a top referee it does seem
odd that he wasn’t kept, or even given a game outside the
groups.

Agree and hopefully just the 3rd/4th match. Although who knows
in the tournament?

All my life I’ve tended to judge a person’s character by their
face. Sometimes I’m right, sometimes I’m wrong. But there is
something about the ‘look’ of both Istvan Kovacs and Danny
Makkelie that suggests to me they wouldn’t be shy of arguing
with the likes of Collina and Busacca, where others might think
something but not say it.
I may be completely mistaken but that’s what I think.

3rd/4th playoff often gets a political appointment - it went to
host nation referee in 2022 with a Qatari referee - and it went
disastrously - wouldn't be surprised to see Elfaith get it this
year.
