I don’t know whether Penso’s performance (that people said
wasn’t very strong) in her second game has ruled her out of the
3rd place match, but if not, she could be a shout.

For me, the best referees have to referee the best games, but
the conspiracy theorists are having a field day at the moment. I
really don't think any of the competing semi-finalist
associations should have a referee involved.
They should however bin confederation neutrality and assign the
following:
France v Spain - Vincic
England v Argentina - Makkiele
3rd Place - Penso (it is a glorified friendly)
Final - Marciniak

France v Spain Vincic
England v Argentina Marciniak
3rd place Penso (not my choice)
Final I don’t know…really depends who wins the semis
Vincic has proven experience…will being Slovenian count against
him in FIFA in the way it counts for him in UEFA?
Marciniak been there, done it. No point in him still being there
if he’s not going to do a semi, and he’s not doing the final.
Penso I really don’t rate, but would tick several boxes. Like
people say, it’s a game no one really wants.
Final
I’d go UEFA based on quality, I’ve said so many times I’ve seen
a far greater gulf in class this tournament. I’m not sure it
will, therefore I don’t know. If a Brit can’t ref Argentina, I
don’t see how they’d accept a Brazilian.
Turpin, MO, AT should all be in the running politics aside;
Faghani may be but shouldn’t…likewise Elfath. Based on running
being quite important and neither able to do it…! It won’t be 3x
UEFA that’s for sure.
Kovacs, MO and Turpin may also be in the running in 4 years too,
as will Letexier though no one has ever had Euro and WC finals
so he may have peaked too soon.

3rd place : Danny Makkelie
Final : Ivan Barton

For the final, my own opinion, based on:
- 2 group game and no other KO means you’re out
- SF teams rule out those countries
- performance principle + enough experience:
If uefa: Makkelie NED - Team out long ago, very safe pair of
hands, let’s games flow but takes no nonsense.
AFC is interesting as never had a final and obviously neutral.
Lots of factors though. If AFC, I’d go for Mahmedeh JOR, if two
UEFA teams. Would be happy with Faghani AUS, but feel 2018 was
his peak. Although he was a good fit for ENG-MEX, I’m not
convinced Collina would be happy with the France OFR? Faghani
possibly edges it if ARG there and is clearly pushed / well
liked. He’d sail through all-UEFA game, but think France might
object?
If Concacaf: Martinez HON - I’m personally not keen on Barton
SLV, as he’s too aggressive and can’t let games flow well, but
that’s personal taste and I’m in the minority. Reckon he’ll have
a shout. Fisher CAN seems to have done well, has the experience
and has been involved in a lot of games. Maybe a dark horse if
politically they want CONCACAF? Elfath should be long finished,
but …
If Conmebol: Valenzuela VEN - simply on performance if Tello is
out

I think it would be a very small chance that three of the four
remaining appointments will go to UEFA referees.
I'd imagine that Marciniak has got to be a lock-in for one of
the semi-finals. I could see anyone out of Makhadmeh, Martinez,
Barton, or Valenzuela getting the other SF. I think the 3rd
place game will be either Makhadmeh, Elfath, or Penso (my money
would be on Penso). Personally I'd choose either Makkelie or
Vincic for the final, but who knows...

involved somewhere here.
