What would be the protocol if this happened if spotted in real
time - and could VAR have intervened on that?

My guess would be a dropped ball.
Looks like FIFA have come out and said that the chip in the ball
didn’t detect any contact with the cable

As a cricket fan - I have been pleasantly surprised that FIFA
decided to take Snicko on board as another tool in the arsenal.
Anything to help decisions get made correctly.

as whilst he has been excellent, his signalling isn’t great….

Thomas Tuchel was seething in his post-match interview. He is
not happy with the reporter for one 😅, and the
performance.
The performance wasn’t good enough, it wasn’t the worst but
needs to improve.
We will get torn apart by (presumably) Argentina if we play like
we did for most of the match.
