Excellent start to this one by Tello.
Correct no foul on Hakimi in the APP leading up to a correct
penalty decision for a foul on Mbappe but generally a very good
showing so far. Good control and good demeanour.

I had an incredibly heated (but friendly) debate with a friend
of mine about the penalty - he was adamant that Mbappe collapsed
the knee to initiate the contact at first viewing and never
changed. I didn't see it and still don't but with every second
they were checking I gave his view a bit more credence.
Other than the finish for the first goal I thought the game was
a bit meh, but Tello was fine if unspectacular.

Other broadcasters reported the VAR check was over the Moroccan
who kept coveting his face whilst talking to a French player.
Without any French complaint it was decided nothing could be
done- this is what took the time

I had the same take - Mbappe collapses just before the contact
was made. It's not as egregious or as obvious as Kane's, but it
is definitely there.
VAR has to check the Hakimi histrionics, check the Mbappe foul,
and check the hand-over-mouth on penalty spot (though I can't
imagine that took long, the two players were hugging whilst
talking in a friendly manner - it clearly wasn't a
confrontation).
It shouldn't have taken so long.

Think we’re looking a bit hard at the penalty decision. Mazouari
didn’t complain and he made the tackle, he knew he missed the
ball and caught Mbappe.
This is what happens when we watch things so many times, slowed
down, it distorts.

I was impressed with the fitness and positioning of the referee
for the penalty kick decision. Pretty much up with play and (in
this day and age) quite wide on the left. Instantly given from
a good position and little complaint from the player who
comitted the foul.
It also killed the conspiracy theorists who thought that and
Argentinian ref would scupper France's changes ...

Yes, good point. Made up good ground and found the angle by
going left…contrast that with Elfath who was far too central and
advanced and missed the clearest pen you’ll ever see in Brazil v
Norway.
