Seems a very Oliver-type appointment - should be an up-tempo
game with a lot of players he knows well from the Premier
League.
I do wonder if FIFA are walking into a bit of a minefield by
giving both QFs so far to refs with countries represented (I
know it happened in 2022 as well) - leaves them open to
potential accusations. Seemed a lot cleaner when they used to
send everyone home before the QFs if their team qualified,
although would be sad to lose Oliver and Turpin.

I can't see us not getting Turpin vs Norway now, which I would
be pretty happy with.

Has Turpin only had 2 games or is it 3? In theory, Marciniak or
Vincic would be other options if a UEFA referee, although there
has been suggestions that Marciniak could be pencilled in for a
SF. Then there's Makkelie, or is he out of it after his 4thO
appointment?
I hope Anthony Taylor may still get another game. IMO, both our
elite referees have performed very well. It was disappointing to
read a hint of "my favourite referee is better than your
favourite refree" creeping in on another thread. Can't we just
accept that England is lucky to have 2 excellent referees at
domestic and international level? Both have served with
distinction for 16 years on the premier league and about 8 years
as FIFA elite. I would also add that France is equally
fortunate to have referees with the quality of Turpin and
Letexier.
As for the Final, it's anyone's guess. Faghani with a last
chance of the big game? Could it still be a Conmebol referee if
Argentina are in the Final? I would have thought Oliver, Taylor,
Turpin and Letexier could be retained to keep all options open.
When it comes to the politics, with no offence to Elfath, I
don't think it would go down well in many quarters with
accusations of bias and interference if he were appointed to the
Final, whatever the merits or otherwise.

Does this make Oliver the first referee in this W C to get a 4th
match?

That has surprised me, not disappointed, quite happy with it but
surprised is definitely the reaction.
Also why not have Taylor as 4thers unless he is pencilled in
elsewhere?
I think both have had great tournaments, I don’t hide that I
prefer Oliver but I have to give credit to both of them,
especially Taylor in Portugal vs Spain who made it look
effortless.
I thought both would not have been used until England have gone
out but now who will get what is really up in the air.
Who does everyone think will get the other QFs? And potential
semis?
People saying Turpin getting England vs Norway, I won’t complain
but we had him for MD1 so won’t that rule him out potentially?

How peculiar - a user's very first contribution to this forum
after being registered for two months and doing nothing, is to
react angrily to Michael Oliver getting an appointment.

Adham Makhadmeh from Jordan has also done 4 matches.

Jalal Jayed refereed Germany’s Round of 32 game against Paraguay
having done their first group game so I could definitely see
Turpin on our game.

Totally agree. Unless he clicked on the wrong option in error,
bizarre.
It's indicative of what I was trying to express earlier. I
recall a couple of years ago, so-called Oliver fans were
admonished for being too supportive of MO even when he made
mistakes, and overly critical of AT. At times, that seems to
have been reversed now. No need for it. There will be days when
it's reasonable to conclude one performs better than the other
and other occasions when the opposite is true. Oliver and
Taylor have different styles but both have shown they can adapt
when necessary - a credit to the PL, UEFA and FIFA.
