This was shocking, how obvious does the report have to be? I’m

With respect to the disallowed goal after OFR, I don’t think the
distance from goal is relevant. The foul occurred as the
attacking phase began, so I have no issue procedurally with
VAR’s involvement.
Subjectively though, I think this did not meet the clear and
obvious threshold. For me it is a foul, others may see it as
normal incidental contact. I’d personally say 70/30 towards a
foul but I think that’s not enough for an OFR. Once at the
monitor though Letexier isn’t really answering the clear and
obvious question anymore, he’s just seeing a foul. So I can’t
really be too critical of him for this, VAR to blame in my view.

After the Argentina vs Cape Verde match, Infantino openly said
he “suffered” with Argentina during the match.
Are we genuinely surprised about any of all this?

So why wasn't he shown the equally clear foul on Salah prior to
Argentina's winner?! Because if he was it's a penalty for Egypt
to knock Argentina out!
This is absolutely glaring inconsistency. Two "goals" came from
soft fouls. And the VAR went with the big side on both calls.
That's what stinks IMO.

Whilst many disagree, it has always been a truism that the bar
for giving a penalty is and has always been higher than a free
kick elsewhere. Fans see it, and generally agree with it - so
long as they're being objective. And every official at every
level knows that is true.
The same applies to VAR. If you're not giving VAR penalties for
the tackles against McGinn, and the Ghana attacker, you
certainly cannot for the likes of this. That would be absurd.
Edit: I've gone and watched the 3rd goal back. That's never a
penalty. There's a reason Salah doesn't even claim for it. The
Argentinian player doesn't even make a motion to play the ball,
he plants his foot back down and there's a tiny contact. It's
perfectly normal football contact.

I don’t really have a problem with the disallowed goal here, it
was sustained holding and pulled him to the floor. Completely
different to any potential foul on Egypt players before the
Argentina breakaway goal.
I thought Letexier was very good. A lesser referee would have
lost control of that towards the end.

I think "clear and obvious" is a premier league thing
For FIFA the question is "has the ref missed something"
A very similar holding offence (correctly) ignored by ref and
VAR in SwiCol game
And there is the lack of consistency

No penalty on Salah, not a chance. The issue is not so much on
the disallowed goal, you can make a clear argument for a foul.
But before and after that decision were plenty of examples of
him ignoring similar challenges, without much feedback or
criticism, and contributing to a classic flowing game. For me
it’s someone who’s not refereeing the game applying, and
initiating an OFR for, a different threshold to how the game was
refereed, and that’s really dangerous.
