QF 'cull"?

If, as in previous WCs, those referees from countries left in
are amongst those sent home.
This will mean at least 5 very strong European refs will be on
their way home (2 Eng, 2 Fra, 1 Port)
Not sure if sane will apply to VAR as Gillet has looked very
good and could easily be used in the top half of the draw
"Winners' with their team going out include Makkelie, who must
be on for 1 more game
Early money on Marcianak doing ENGNOR which I would be more than
happy with. To be fair any of the UEFA guys would be welcome

With the Englishmen and Frenchmen heading home, who do we think
could take the final?
I know a lot of us thought 1 of them 4 would get it, but now it
seems as though the baton is still running around and still out
there to be claimed..

Has it been confirmed that the referees from the nations still
in the tournament at the QF stage will be going home ?
In the 2022 World Cup, the three quarter finals referees were
from nations that were still in the tournament. There was also
one each in the quarter finals back in 2018 and 2014.

I hope not: certainly for AT and MO but also quite happy to have
either French ref for England games

Doubt it will be a European referee on the final after Marciniak
did it last time.

When a referee, such as Tantashev, has a performance that sends
them home or hinders their progress in the rest of the
tournament, you do have to feel for their assistants, who
usually don't put a foot wrong.
It's like a chain of command. Referees essentially require their
country to perform poorly to get further, and assistants require
their referee to perform well to get further.
Some of these assistants may only get one or two shots at
getting closer to the final, and if their referee can't put in a
good performance, they are let down big time.

I’ve never understood the “sent home” thing. If I was running
the show, I would want to keep ALL my top officials on hand, so
as to keep all options open, as match results cannot be
predicted with certainty.
Also, if I was a match official at one of these tournaments (as
the teenage me often dreamed!) even if my performances had been
such that my services were no longer required, I would want to
stay on and support my higher-placed colleagues, and watch the
remaining games.
They should all be invited to the Final - culling Trump’s army
of security personnel by about 10% should provide enough seats!

There were two back to back European referees in 2010 and 2014.

I would say Barton (presuming tomorrow goes well), Valenzuala
and Vincic are all officials who have performed very well so
far and don't come from a participating country and so could get
the final regardless.
Outside shot could be Faghani who despite being 'sacrificed' on
a near-impossible game seemed to come out more or less
unscathed, although he did miss two KMIs.
