As expected, UEFA are fully against this!
FIFA suspending USA forward Folarin Balogun's red card "crossed
a red line", according to UEFA.
The union of European Football Associations released a statement
this morning, saying football "relies on rules, which are the
basis for fair, honest and transparent competition".
"Sometimes rules are open to interpretation. In this case, not,"
UEFA added in the statement.
UEFA said that "when the certainty of rules is no longer
guaranteed," then the "integrity of the game is at stake and the
credibility of a competition is undermined".
The European footballing body then said the decision created a
precedent in the ongoing tournament, "where similar situations
will now require equal treatment".

Can we expect our red card to be overturned? I despair at times.

While I am sceptical about how far UEFA will pursue their
protest, I think it would be unwise for Gianni Infantino to
dismiss it out of hand. Sepp Blatter had his faults, but he
understood that to achieve his ambition of making FIFA the most
powerful organisation on earth, he needed to keep it united.
With his fondness for appeasing tinpot dictators and his
tendency to make inappropriate remarks, Infantino is in danger
of squandering his predecessor's legacy. Not only is he
dissipating the reserves of power accumulated by Blatter, but he
is for the first time in its history exposing FIFA to the risk
of an eventual schism.

It won’t be long before louder calls are made in the direction
of Infantino calling him to leave.
His decisions and his actions in this World Cup are beyond
ridiculous.

Is there any recourse to CAS? Whilst it would not give any
immediate resolution it could cause FIFA to consider the
consequences of having the USA - Belgium game declared null and
void because of an ultra vires action.

As per Sky News, Donald Trump has said:
“That wasn't a foul... that was two guys running full speed that
happened to crash into each other. Like, you can't take your
foot and properly place it on somebody else's foot... these were
two great athletes that got tangled up.”
"This referee is a little bit suspect. If you check his past, I
don't want to say that because I don't like to create
controversy, but but very suspect."
He also calls Balogun "our best player".
Trump goes on to say "I'm the one that got them to do it",
referring to his call with FIFA chief Gianni Infantino, where he
asked him to suspend the red card.
The US president reiterates, "I didn't think that was a foul",
and praises FIFA for a "really brilliant decision".
This is a disgrace of the highest order. This is outrageous.
Outright disgraceful to the integrity of the sport.
Taking shots at the referee too. Oh my word.

This is a dangerous road to go down, when people like Tango man
admit they have essentially told FIFA to rescind the card.
It also shows that the FIFA people involved in this corruption
should be thrown out of the game.
As for Infantino, he is a disgrace to the sport and has single
handedly shot his pretty low esteem out of the water.
His credibility is now at zero.

hi,
trump has now said he spoke to infantino and suggested a review
but didn't instruct fifa to do anything more than that.
he has also called into question raphael claus's integrity...
quoted from bbc
Trump continues: "I think the referee's call was horrible and
nobody talks about that. The referee's decision to red card - I
didn't know what the hell a red card was. When I found out I
said, 'you gotta be kidding'. This guy just hands out... 'ok,
your best player's next going to play next week or in the next
game'. I said 'wow, that's a lot of power'. Then I looked at his
[the referee's] past, and... it wasn't so great."
Trump continues: "This referee, who is a little bit suspect. If
you check his past, I don't want to say that because I don't
like to create controversy, but very suspect... if you like I'll
provide you with the past.
crazy times - how can this be allowed? [emoji15]
regards
gnr
