USA vs Bosnia - Raphael Claus BRA

       “🚨
       𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚:
The White House contacted FIFA directly to request a review of
       Folarin Balogun's red card.
FIFA declined to comment on the call itself, pointing instead to
the decision of its independent disciplinary committee. Sources
maintain the ruling was made solely under Article 27 and was not
       influenced by any external intervention.”
That’s what countless people are reporting on X, if that is
       true, well well well…

If this is true, it’s appalling - but sadly not surprising.

Does everything to convince me that my decision not to watch
this fiasco from the word go is fully justified.
Who needs VAR to re-referee matches when the POTUS can do it
       without trying?

The Royal Belgian Football Association has released a statement
in regard to Folarin Balogun being able to play against them.
"The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) is astonished by
FIFA's decision to declare suspended United States player
Folarin Balogun eligible to play in the USA–Belgium match on
Monday, 6 July at 5:00 p.m. (Seattle time)."
"FIFA bases its decision on Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary
Code. This provision states that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee
may decide to suspend the enforcement of a previously imposed
       disciplinary sanction."
"However, Article 66.4 of the same FIFA Disciplinary Code
clearly provides that a red card (sending-off) automatically
results in a suspension for the team's next match, as has been
the case for all previous red cards issued during this FIFA
       World Cup."
"Furthermore, and irrespective of the above, the decision is in
direct contradiction with the provisions of the FIFA World Cup
2026 Competition Regulations, as set out in Article 10.5:
"If a player or team official is sent off as a result of a
direct or indirect red card (second caution), they will
automatically be suspended from their team's subsequent match.
In addition, further sanctions may be imposed."
"The automatic nature of such a suspension was also explicitly
reaffirmed in FIFA World Cup 2026 Circular No. 16, which was
distributed to all participating member associations on 12 May
       2026."
"The same rule is reiterated at every FIFA World Cup 2026 Match
Coordination Meeting prior to each match and is included in all
FIFA World Cup 2026 workshop presentations.
"In order to safeguard the legitimate rights of all
participating teams and to protect the fundamental principles of
fair play in our sport, both at this FIFA World Cup and at
future editions of the tournament, the RBFA is investigating all
       potential options."

For me, it was serious foul play. Probably accidental but the
type of contact that could have broken an ankle. Ticked the
boxes for endangering the safety of the opponent.
Not at all surprised, given who he plays for, that the ban has
been waived. For a year apparently.
Ref will get hung out to dry also.
Thats all I should say on the matter on a public forum to avoid
       any ban.

Yet another scandal. There is no justifiable reason for the
player not to be suspended as usual. Might only be one game - at
a push - but every fifa rule says automatically one game and
increases from there based on the offence. Every other team left
       in should protest.
Good luck to the Jordanian referee …

Trump’s intervention is especially ironic given his recent upset
at the US Supreme Court striking down his executive order
attempting to end birthright citizenship for children of non
citizens - given the player involved in this case is a child to
immigrant parents who were not US citizens at his birth.
Now should this decision for Trump to tell FIFA to drop the
suspension be an indication of a newfound respect for the rule
of US constitutional law on his part, I’d rejoice, but, of
course this is yet another example of the current US President’s
desire to inject chicanery into every proceeding he can get his
hands on. Good thing the FIFA president was close by when he
needed help, I doubt he had to look beyond his back pocket.
To conclude as I started I’ll steal a quote from a former US
Supreme Court justice. There are many examples where threats to
sporting integrity are subtle, clad in sheep’s clothing, only
discernible through careful examination and investigation. “But
this wolf comes as a wolf.”
       What an utter disgrace.

Belgium have been granted permission to appeal FIFA's decision
to uphold Folarin Balogun's one-match suspension, with the
process beginning less than 24 hours before their World Cup
round of 16 clash against the United States.
Belgium must submit their appeal by Monday morning, and while a
verdict could be delivered before kick-off, FIFA has given no
guarantee that a decision will be reached in time.
Just wait until a certain someone hears about this.
Unfortunately, I have a feeling the appeal will get nowhere, for
obvious reasons. I do feel for Belgium, they really have been
       let down.
