       Overlooking mandatory yellow cards

Having had the pleasure of watching most of the tournament, it
seems clear to me that there's been a directive about not
carding for all but the most blatant yellow card offences, even
       for mandatory yellows.
I've lost count at the number of yellows not given for clear
cases of denying a promising attack, and just now in
Argentina-Cape Verde a player not just left the pitch to
celebrate but he went into the crowd! And again, no YC
This even applies to UEFA referees who would normally give cards
for a lot less. Has anyone else noticed this too?

Yes, it’s blatantly obvious and it’s infuriating. I was glad to
see Turpin referee the Colombia-Ghana game properly which made a
nice change from what we’ve been seeing

I would find it very difficult to change at short notice. YCs
became instinctive, hand would be in pocket before I'd thought
"oops my boss might not like this"
As a referee of experience you get given the games that need
refereeing, which means YC average may remain high. Choosing the
right YCs is a skill - having 5 or 6 in a game reflects on
players too. If they are all justified

You are 100% correct; but perhaps a required skill of the modern
day interational referee is the ability to "flex" one's
refereeing style to suit whoever has appointed one to a
       particular match?

One initially found that most amusing, but on further reflection
one fears it may sadly be all too true.

I think fifa have made it quite clear they do not want the laws
of the game to be enforced, they have removed balogun's
suspension now for his clesr red card offence

Folarin Balogun is available to play for the United States in
their World Cup last 16 tie against Belgium after his one game
ban was suspended by FIFA. The striker was shown a straight red
for a foul on Bosnia-Herzegovina defender Tarik Muharemovic.
FIFA have said that the ban will be suspended for a year.
"In line with article 27 of the FIFA disciplinary code, the
implementation of the match suspension is suspended for one
year, if Folarin Balogun commits another infringement of a
similar nature and gravity during this period, the suspension
shall be revoked and the sanction enforced without prejudice to
any additional sanction imposed for the new infringement."

The American President said “Thank you to FIFA for doing what
was right and reversing a great injustice”.
I’m sure he was on the phone to his mate at FIFA as soon as that
       was given.
       It’s all a disgrace.

I trust King Charles, probably better if it was Princess Anne,
'phones up Infantile and gets the Quansah red card suspended for
       a year
